We will get a chance to do that at the ballot box in 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Biden\u2019s proposal would reportedly regulate\nsemiautomatic rifles the same way fully automatic machine guns are regulated\nunder the National Firearms Act of 1934. It would close alleged \u201cloopholes\u201d in\nthe background check system and prohibit the sale of so-called \u201cassault-style\nrifles\u201d and original standard capacity magazines, and push the states to adopt\nso-called \u201cred flag\u201d laws with no due process protections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cRemember,\u201d Gottlieb recalled, \u201cthis is the\nsame Joe Biden who once famously counseled people to fire a double-barreled\nshotgun into the air from outside their house to scare away home invasion\nrobbers. That\u2019s not only illegal, it\u2019s dangerous in a populated area. And this\nguy thinks he can tell us about \u2018gun safety\u2019 measures?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gottlieb recalled Biden as a \u201cchampion of\nevery gun control scheme that came along\u201d while he was on Capitol Hill. Biden\nhas frequently bragged about pushing the Clinton ban on semi-auto rifles and\nmagazines in the 1990s that studies later showed had little to zero effect on\nviolent crime rates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne thing we can say about Joe Biden is\nthat he\u2019s consistent,\u201d Gottlieb observed. \u201cHe has consistently voted against\nthe rights of law-abiding gun owners. He has consistently pressed for gun\ncontrol laws that have not prevented criminals from committing crimes with\nfirearms that Biden\u2019s laws said they shouldn\u2019t have. He has consistently been\nwrong on Second Amendment issues. And now he\u2019s offering a re-packaged version\nof gun control that he hopes will sound like a moderate compromise to the gun\nprohibition crowd. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJoe Biden,\u201d Gottlieb concluded, \u201chas\nconsistently ignored the fact that the Second Amendment protects a fundamental\nright, not a privilege that can be regulated by his, or anyone else\u2019s gun\ncontrol scheme.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With\nmore than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for\nthe Right to Keep and Bear Arms (www.ccrkba.org) is one of the nation&#8217;s premier\ngun rights organizations.
