BELLEVUE, WA<\/strong> \u2013 The anonymous whistleblower complaint against President Donald Trump now being used by Democrats to launch an impeachment inquiry is tantamount to a \u201cred flag\u201d action against a gun owner, with the accused being presumed guilty until he or she can prove their innocence, the Second Amendment Foundation said today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe lynch mob mentality now being exhibited by Capitol Hill Democrats is the same kind of rush-to-judgment thinking that courts and prosecutors use to rationalize seizing someone\u2019s firearms, while throwing due process under the nearest bus,\u201d said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. \u201cFar-left House Democrats, who have wanted to remove the duly-elected president from office since the 2016 election are treating this anonymous complaint like gospel, virtually the same way the legal system treats a so-called \u2018red flag\u2019 complaint against a gun owner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cCompletely\nabsent from this political circus act is anything close to skepticism,\u201d he\ncontinued. \u201cThere\u2019s a transcript of a telephone call between Trump and the\nUkrainian president which Trump\u2019s detractors read one way and his supporters\nread another way, and that\u2019s about it. At least the president has the advantage\nof knowing there\u2019s been a complaint filed, but in the case of a \u2018red flag\u2019\nallegation, the gun owner typically doesn\u2019t know a thing until police come\nknocking on the door. In either case, neither the president or an affected gun\nowner has had the opportunity to face their accuser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMany\npeople are convinced that the president\u2019s case amounts to political theatrics,\u201d\nGottlieb said. \u201cHowever, there are no theatrics involved when a private\ncitizen\u2019s property is seized. As we saw last year in Maryland, a gun owner was\nserved and something went wrong, and that person was shot dead inside his own\nfront door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe\u2019re\nnot sure how this drama will play out against President Trump,\u201d he noted, \u201cbut\nwe do know that anytime an anonymous complaint can be used to launch something\nas serious as an impeachment inquiry, by the same people who are pushing \u2018red\nflag\u2019 laws against gun owners, it\u2019s time to seriously re-think both processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIf this can happen to a president,\u201d Gottlieb observed, \u201chow long will it be before a \u2018red flag\u2019 case can be launched on the basis of an anonymous complaint?
