The always-fatal illness affects deer and elk in 26 states and spreads\nthrough direct contact between animals and through bodily fluids such as poop,\nspit, blood or urine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Supporters of the ban argue that baiting encourages animals\nto congregate around bait piles and salt licks, which allows CWD to spread more\nrapidly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Opponents, like Michigan native and rock-n-roll star Ted Nugent, believe the ban represents a direct attack on the hunting community and will fail to stop the spread of CWD. Nugent argued his case at the state capitol during a hearing for a bill that would overturn the ban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe regulations in Michigan are chasing hunters out of the sport,\u201d Nugent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.house.mi.gov\/SharedVideo\/PlayVideoArchive.html?video=GOVE-091719.mp4\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-ted-nugent-michigan-deer-baiting-ban\" title=\"Ted Nugent Weighs in on the Michigan Deer Baiting Ban: \"Engineered Ruination of Our Hunting Heritage\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">told<\/a> the state House Government Operations Committee. \u201cThis law is dramatically reducing revenue generation and dangerously reducing family recreation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/hunt365-alabama-sandhill-crane\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-ted-nugent-michigan-deer-baiting-ban\" title=\"Ted Nugent Weighs in on the Michigan Deer Baiting Ban: \"Engineered Ruination of Our Hunting Heritage\"\">Alabama Opens Experimental Season on Sandhill Crane<\/a> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Calling the ban an \u201cengineered ruination of our hunting\nheritage,\u201d Nugent argued that deer spread CWD on their own. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile I\u2019m sitting here, deer are swapping spit,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\neat off the same apple. They eat off the same branch. You can\u2019t ban that. That\u2019s\nwhat deer do. But CWD represents a more existential\nthreat to hunting than a slight decrease in the number of people who hunt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re dealing with a disease that has the potential to\ncompromise the deer herd for decades and decades to come,\u201d he told Bridge.\n\u201cThis is a situation where we need to be able to make a sacrifice in the\npresent \u2014 so that we can preserve this resource that we love for future\ngenerations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twenty-four states ban baiting of cervids, and 15 others restrict the practice in various ways,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/cwd-info.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/CWDRegstableState-Province_Spring19.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"
