Congress\u2019s impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump might be bad for national unity, but they\u2019re putting a stop to the Democrats\u2019 radical gun control agenda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

California Rep. Nancy Pelosi announced this week that the House will begin official impeachment inquiries, and her investigation will likely distract members of Congress for months while making any kind of bi-partisan legislation nearly impossible, according to a recent report from the Washington Free Beacon<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHard to imagine Trump doing a signing ceremony of anything with Speaker Pelosi at his side, and Democrats are the only ones agitating for gun control,\u201d one Senate staffer told the\u00a0Free Beacon\u00a0on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A second staffer told the online news outlet that \u201cthe\nimpeachment stuff sucks up all the oxygen,\u201d and a third said gun control wouldn\u2019t\nbe a priority at least \u201cfor a while.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As news broke this week of President Trump\u2019s controversial call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and the subsequent release of the whistleblower\u2019s report, the House\u2019s long-awaited hearings on the proposed \u201cassault weapon\u201d ban \u201cflew largely under the radar,\u201d according to Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NRA Institute for Legislative Action attempted to speak\nwith members of the so-called \u201cSquad\u201d after the hearings, but mainstream\ncoverage was dwarfed in the shadow of possible impeachment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Democrats have pushed hard for more restrictive gun control laws after three high-profile mass murders this summer, and their efforts were given a boost by President Trump\u2019s initial support for \u201cstrong background checks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We cannot let those killed in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, die in vain. Likewise for those so seriously wounded. We can never forget them, and those many who came before them. Trump has since backed away from his initial statements, but a new report from CBS News<\/a> this week claims the President asked New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern about how the country\u2019s gun buyback program<\/a> has been received. Ardern stopped short of saying the President supported such a scheme in the U.S., but she \u201cgot the impression he was interested.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All that work might be for naught now that the Democrats have gone down the road to impeachment. While some lawmakers are hoping<\/a> the House\u2019s investigation won\u2019t consume all other legislative affairs, the Free Beacon reports that even Senate aides have begun preparations for a long, nasty fight that could last well into next year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
