Remember all those years when gun control politicians told us they \u201crespect the Second Amendment,\u201d which was usually followed by some statement suggesting the Second Amendment just protects firearms for hunting? They tried to calm the fears of gun owners by saying, \u201cNo one\u2019s taking away your guns.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I kind of hate being the one to say \u201cI told you so, but\u2026\u201d Well, the mask is off. Everyone can thank presidential Democratic candidate Robert Francis \u201cBeto\u201d O\u2019Rourke for just coming out and finally saying what we\u2019ve known all along. Politicians who claim to just want a little gun control have an entirely different end game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHell, yes, we\u2019re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not Your Dad\u2019s Gun Control<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

O\u2019Rourke\u2019s emphatic pronouncement is a radical departure from his party\u2019s mantra that gun control politicians want to limit access to firearms for those who can\u2019t be trusted. Former President Barack Obama famously said<\/a>,<\/strong> \u201cFirst of all, the notion that I or Hillary or Democrats or whoever you want to choose are hell-bent on taking away folks\u2019 guns is just not true.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, when it was previously proposed by U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), not a single Democrat candidate pushed back. In fact, since then, Former Vice President Joe Biden, U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Cory Booker and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) have all endorsed gun confiscations. Sen. Amy Klobuchar defended<\/a><\/strong> a forced seizure as constitutional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fund Raising of Gun Grabs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It makes you nostalgic for the days of old when at least gun control politicians tried to be sly. No longer. O\u2019Rourke ripped the lid off that on the debate stage. He didn\u2019t stop there. He\u2019s marketing the phrase by putting it on t-shirts<\/strong><\/a> to raise money off it for his campaign. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is chiding Politifact<\/strong><\/a> for once claiming O\u2019Rourke was part of the \u201cnot really going to take your guns\u201d crowd when the site rated the rumor as \u201cfalse.\u201d The site backed O\u2019Rourke in his U.S. Senate challenge when he claimed he didn\u2019t want to seize anyone\u2019s guns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

O\u2019Rourke explained on \u201cThe Chad Hasty Show\u201d in 2018 that he believed AR-15s in private ownership weren\u2019t a concern. \u201cTo be clear, they should have them. You purchased that AR-15, if you own it, keep it. Continue to use it responsibly.\u201d He even added, \u201cIf you own a gun, keep that gun. Nobody wants to take it away from you \u2014 at least I don\u2019t want to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t Say It Out Loud<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s got some fellow politicians a little nervous. U.S. Rep. David Cicilline, (D-R.I.) told Fox News<\/strong><\/a>,<\/strong> \u201cThat message doesn\u2019t help\u2026\u201d That\u2019s coming from the guy who is writing the Assault Weapons Ban of 2019<\/strong><\/a>,<\/strong> the bill that would ban the sale of modern sporting rifles. U.S. Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) told<\/strong> CNN<\/strong><\/a>,<\/strong> \u201cI frankly think that that clip will be played for years at Second Amendment rallies\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Others, though, are downright giddy. U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.),\u00a0said<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0her push for criminalizing private firearms sales \u201care the base from which we must do anything.\u201d She also warned Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell there would be\u00a0\u201c<\/strong>hell to pay<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0if he didn\u2019t pass her flawed legislation. Pelosi warned President Trump any proposal he puts forth must include universal background checks and if he agreed to her demands, she promised she\u2019d drag Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) so they could\u00a0gloat<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0while he signed a bill into law in a Rose Garden ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
