<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KelTec has released a new compact, lightweight rimfire pistol chambered for .22 Long Rifle at an extremely affordable price point. Called the P17<\/a> for its capacity, the little pistol holds an impressive 16+1 rounds with flush-fitting magazines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unloaded the P17 weighs less than 13 ounces and measures just over 6.5 inches long with its 3.9-inch barrel. The barrel has recessed 1\/2-28 threads for muzzle device accessory adapters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

KelTec has set the MSRP for the P17 right at $199, which is even more impressive when the company says that includes not one but two extra magazines for a total of three. That buys a lot of kit gun. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like most of KelTec’s products the P17 uses a clamshell design and more than a few screws. That’s true even for the sights, which may indicate future mini red dot sight potential as far as mounts go. It also has a railed frame for other accessories like lights and laser sights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The standard sights are placed far apart for a long sight radius which always helps, especially with smaller pistols. The P17 ships with a black rear sight and a fiber-optic front sight for fast target acquisition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Don\u2019t let the small size fool you. This little pistol is a tack driver. The excellent trigger, fiber-optic front sight and adjustable rear sight help you extend the P17\u2019s range. It\u2019s a handy little .22LR that builds confidence and burns bull\u2019s eyes,” says KelTec. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the P17 features fully ambidextrous controls including paddle magazine release levers and manual thumb safeties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

KelTec hasn’t released all of the details so far. While the biggest feature is its low price, things like whether or not the pistol has a last round bolt-hold-open are still up in the air. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And while it’s obviously a polymer-framed handgun, we don’t know if it’s striker-fired or hammer-fired, whether or not it can be de-cocked, or how it takes down. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, for less than $200, those little details aren’t terribly important. Unless the P17 has some hidden surprises, based on what people do know, this will already be a hard buy or hard pass for anyone interested in an automatic rimfire pistol. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The P17 has the potential to be a real crowd-pleaser, though, and KelTec will be sure to sell them in numbers. And while it’s possible that they will list for less than their $199 sticker price, historically KelTec’s popular rimfires list — and sell — at points all over the map, even above suggested pricing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

KelTec has been working hard to produce guns that put smiles on everyone’s faces. Recently they’ve been polling customers to gauge interest in a .45 ACP or 10mm pistol-caliber carbine<\/a>. Their 9mm Luger and .40 S&W carbines are already hugely popular. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
