It inevitably leads to disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must do&nbsp;<em>the right thing<\/em>, not just anything. This requires thought, reason, facts and a solid plan. If you&#8217;re stranded in a lifeboat and all you have is a drill, you don&#8217;t start drilling holes. You turn the drill into a motor and get yourself to shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have had background checks&nbsp;<em>for decades<\/em>\u2014experts report these have done nothing to affect the recent spate of crazed mass murderers. They also have no effect on deranged children seeking to murder their classmates. Proposed expanded checks,&nbsp;<em>if you read them<\/em>, will impose costs and delays on innocent people but have zero effect on 300 million guns out there\u2014or psychos being motivated by the promise of fame conferred by incessant mass-murder promotion on the so-called \u201dnews.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new noise about &#8220;red-flag laws\u201d obscures the fact that police already have the tools to control true threats. Seriously dangerous &#8220;red flag\u201d people can be locked up right now, and you know the mass murderers have been repeatedly flagged, then&nbsp;<em>ignored by authorities who face no consequences<\/em>. And the new laws are hopelessly flawed, missing the obvious:&nbsp;<em>People too dangerous to keep their own guns are too dangerous to be left out on the street<\/em>\u2014with matches, vehicles, kitchen knives or even more guns easily bought from drug dealers&#8230; Why doesn&#8217;t the &#8220;news\u201d media make this clear instead of pounding a drum?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The obvious unraveling of society we can all see\u2014kids who want to mass murder their classmates, unhinged psychos shooting up stores and theaters, city-dwellers murdering their neighbors by the thousands in historically-black inner-city ghettos\u2014the answer isn&#8217;t to outlaw guns owned by the innocent, or pass laws we already have that aren&#8217;t working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Violating the Constitution by confiscating property people legally own (known as &#8220;infringement\u201d), eliminating due process, encouraging citizens to become snitches with no repercussions for false, hoplophobic or malicious reports and turning police into warrantless nighttime invaders, these are not answers. This is like drilling holes in your lifeboat, and helping to sink America into a tyrannical socialist failure like so many others on history&#8217;s junkpile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fueled by media reports, anti-gun-rights groups have succeeded in convincing some fearful Americans that gun ownership literally &#8220;proves\u201d a person must be crazy. Will simple gun possession become grounds for red-flagging neighbors?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership says start here:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Don&#8217;t Inspire Evil. Stop perpetual broadcasts and publication of mass murders, especially from the past. &#8220;Refrain from gratuitous or repetitious portrayal of mass murderers&#8217; names and images.\u201d The criminals want fame. Deny them their infamy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8220;We must starve terrorists of the oxygen of publicity which they seek.\u201d<br \/><\/strong>&#8212; Margaret Thatcher<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Teach students and the public about the righteous place the Second Amendment holds in American society. Firearms are crucial in the preservation of peace and freedom, creating a balance of power between government and the public it serves. Guns have social utility, saving lives, stopping crime and keeping you safe. Distorting these truths through emphasis and omission is&nbsp;<em>a direct violation of the Associated Press Code of Ethics<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Encourage routine gun-safety training and marksmanship, so people young and old develop a proper respect for firearms, like Americans used to possess before this was banished from the public square and the current insanity took its place. If you own a gun and understand gun safety, take someone you know to the range, this week. That will do more to slow the barrage of misinformation spewing from TV and the media than anything else you can do.
