<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One survivor of the Walmart shooting in El Paso, Texas, last weekend didn’t stand by — he actively tried to interfere with the shooter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christopher Grant was shopping with his mother when the shooting began. His first thought was to cover his mother and get her Smith and Wesson .38 Special, which she normally carries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“My mom, she’s a gun-wielding grandma — she carries a snub-nose Smith & Wesson .38 Special with a built-in scope in it everywhere she goes.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, the “gun-wielding grandma” had decided not to bring it with her to Walmart that day, Grant told CNN’s<\/a> Julio Rosas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I saw him standing in the parking lot and I saw him popping people off. I was inside the produce department, which is right by the front door and I saw him popping people off and I was like, ya know, ‘This is crazy!’ So, to deter him, I started just chucking bottles, I just started throwing bottles, random bottles at him.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His distraction effectively attracted the shooter’s attention, and Grant ended up getting shot in the back. Thankfully, he was evacuated by another shopper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There was Donna, my guardian angel, and she’s a federal agent,” explained Grant. Donna is an agent with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, who incidentally had also left her sidearm at home that day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“She said the same thing my mom said, ‘I’m going to Walmart, I don’t need my firearm.’ …She’ll be a friend for life because I honestly think she saved my life,” he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notably, in the video CNN published on their YouTube page<\/a>, they omitted the section about him asking his mother for her gun. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Historically, private citizens have stopped as many as 11.5 percent of active shooter situations. GunsAmerica has reported in the past about these statistics being skewed<\/a> to downplay the positive effect of responsible concealed carriers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accurate statistics could significantly impact the public’s opinion about gun-control laws showing that not only do criminals not obey those laws, but the carrying public that does can make a powerful dent in criminal activity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can only guess how differently things may have gone if Grant’s mother or the CBP agent had had their guns that day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
