The relatively new-on-the-scene optics company, Maven, continue to listen to their customers and add new items to their growing product line in 2019. Founded in 2014, Maven offers their products through a direct to consumer business model, allowing them to offer up quality optics at a price that won\u2019t break the bank for most people who take their glassing seriously. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year they\u2019ve added, among other things, a compact\nspotting scope dubbed the S.2. Weighing in at thirty-four ounces and just\neleven inches long, it fits in just about any pocket on a hunting pack and adds\na nominal amount of weight for a significant increase in glassing ability. The\nS.2 comes in a 12-27 magnification range with a 56 mm objective lens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I used the spotter this spring on deer and sheep scouting trips and quickly found the benefits of a compact, powerful piece of glass. I left it attached to a small tripod and put it in an easily accessible pocket of my pack. At a moments notice, I could pull it out and be set up glassing sheep as the topography of the broken country revealed them. Maven\u2019s website touts good edge to edge clarity and light-gathering capabilities due in part to the 56mm objective lens and I found this to be very true. I glassed game as the light faded without trouble and found the field of view clear all the way to the edges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like other Maven products, the S.2 is fully customizable to the user\u2019s specifications of color and comes in a rugged magnesium\/polymer frame. The knurled focus adjustment is easy to manipulate barehanded or with gloves on. With its compact size and lightweight, it could prove to be an essential tool for the ounce-counting backcountry hunter or a valuable addition to a daypack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
