{"id":112568,"date":"2019-07-08T15:36:14","date_gmt":"2019-07-08T19:36:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/?p=112568"},"modified":"2019-07-08T15:36:14","modified_gmt":"2023-08-18T12:00:49","slug":"ccrkba-dems-should-take-lesson-from-new-zealand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/ccrkba-dems-should-take-lesson-from-new-zealand\/","title":{"rendered":"CCRKBA: Dems Should Take Lesson From New Zealand"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>BELLEVUE, WA<\/strong> \u2013 A new report from New Zealand three months after the Parliament there hastily enacted new gun control regulations shows that people are not surrendering their banned firearms, and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today that there is a lesson in that for Democrats now vying for the presidency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom poll leader Joe Biden down to last\nplace Washington Gov. Jay Inslee,\u201d said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, \u201cevery\nDemocrat running has offered some new degree of gun control to include bans on many\nsemiautomatic firearms. But New Zealanders, who don\u2019t even enjoy a Second\nAmendment right to keep and bear arms in their constitution, are balking at the\nnotion of turning in their firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHere in the United States,\u201d he continued,\n\u201cwhere we have the Second Amendment as the cornerstone of our Bill of Rights,\nanybody who seriously believes the citizens will line up to just hand over\ntheir guns may be too delusional to be president.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Reason magazine, only about\n700 firearms have so far been surrendered, out of an estimated 1.5 million guns\nin the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen a government starts penalizing\nlaw-abiding citizens for crimes they didn\u2019t commit,\u201d Gottlieb observed, \u201cit\u2019s\nup to those citizens to resist. We understand there are legal challenges in the\nworks, and we support that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter the tragedy of Christchurch, our\nsympathies are still with the people of New Zealand,\u201d he added. \u201cHowever, it\nshould be no surprise that there are now concerns about a possible black market\nin illicit firearms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRemember,\u201d Gottlieb recalled, \u201cthe man\nnow accused of this horrible crime apparently did it in part to stir up a gun\ncontrol debate and bring about new restrictions in New Zealand and in the\nUnited States. Ardern and the Parliament gave him exactly what he wanted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf this is what\u2019s happening in New\nZealand,\u201d he concluded, \u201cjust what do Democrats running for president think\nwould happen here if they followed the same course?
