All of the cars were locked, and Chronister mentioned that a Coke delivery driver moved his truck to block access to some of the other cars in the parking lot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unable to gain access to a car, the suspect attempted to\nenter the businesses in the strip mall surrounding the Publix. Some were\nlocked, and in at least one case an employee held the door shut and denied\nentry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/hero-walmart-active-killer\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"florida-man-shoots-kills-carjacker\" title=\"Florida Man Shoots, Kills Carjacker (w\/ 10 Prior Felony Arrests) Operating in Broad Daylight\">Hero Who Stopped Walmart Active Killer Speaks Out<\/a> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Chronister reports that one of the employees notified their\nsupervisor of the attempted carjackings, so the supervisor exited the store\nusing the rear door, where he met the suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDuring that time, some type of altercation occurred,\u201d\nChronister told reporters. \u201cThe business supervisor discharged his weapon and\nstruck the suspect in the upper body.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s unclear what kind of altercation took place. When asked\nby a reporter whether the suspect attacked the victim, Chronister said, \u201cThat\u2019s\nwhat we\u2019re trying to figure out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo charges on our victim at this point. We\u2019re calling him a\nvictim until we can examine the surveillance footage and interview a few more\nwitnesses, and then we\u2019ll make that determination. Chronister said he had 10 previous felony arrests, all related to narcotics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His motives aren\u2019t known, but the sheriff stressed that the\ninvestigation is still in its early stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow he got here, why he chose this shopping center, what\nhis motive was, we just don\u2019t know at this point.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspect\u2019s name is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin. The victim has requested an attorney before speaking to law enforcement, so the Chronister couldn\u2019t provide any additional details about the shooting at the time of the press conference.
