David Cicilline (D-RI) in the House and Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) in the Senate. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sponsors believe the bill closes the \u201cHate Crimes Loophole\u201d by banning the sale and possession of firearms for anyone convicted of committing a crime on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOver and over again we have seen what happens when a convicted white supremacist, white nationalist, or neo-Nazi is able to purchase a gun,\u201d said Cicilline, who serves as Vice Chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/cicilline.house.gov\/press-release\/cicilline-introduces-bill-close-hate-crimes-loophole\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"disarm-hate-act-introduced\" title=\"Disarm Hate Act Introduced: Would Permanently Revoke 2A Rights for Misdemeanor Hate Crimes\">statement<\/a> obtained by GunsAmerica.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis bill closes the Hate Crimes Loophole and makes it much harder for someone to give voice to their hatred in a volley of gunfire. It\u2019s just common sense. If you\u2019ve been convicted of a hate crime, you don\u2019t get to buy a gun. Full stop,\u201d he added. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John Feinblatt, the president of Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety, cheered the measure. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen hate comes armed, it can be deadly,\u201d said Feinblatt. \u201cBut right now, there is no federal law that prevents people convicted of misdemeanor hate crimes from owning or buying guns \u2014 a situation that defies both common sense and common decency.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe applaud Rep. Cicilline and Sen. Casey for honoring the victims of shootings at the Chabad of Poway, Tree of Life Synagogue and thousands of other preventable tragedies for introducing legislation to disarm hate,\u201d he added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the Left would have you believe that hate crimes are skyrocketing in the age of Trump, the data paints a different picture.&nbsp; An analysis by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bjs.gov\/content\/pub\/pdf\/hcs1317pp.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"disarm-hate-act-introduced\" title=\"Disarm Hate Act Introduced: Would Permanently Revoke 2A Rights for Misdemeanor Hate Crimes\">Bureau of Justice Statistics<\/a> suggests that while reported hate crimes have increased in recent years, the number of unreported hate crimes have dropped over the same period.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the overall total of both unreported and reported hate crime victimizations has remained somewhat steady over the past three years but down significantly since 2014 and the previous years when Obama was in office. &nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"infogram-embed\" data-id=\"0ef5829a-b0b6-43e6-9f92-49c1c5636392\" data-type=\"interactive\" data-title=\"BJS Hate Crimes\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>!function(e,t,s,i){var n=&#8221;InfogramEmbeds&#8221;,o=e.getElementsByTagName(&#8220;script&#8221;)[0],d=\/^http:\/.test(e.location)?&#8221;http:&#8221;:&#8221;https:&#8221;;if(\/^\\\/{2}\/.test(i)&amp;&amp;(i=d+i),window[n]&amp;&amp;window[n].initialized)window[n].process&amp;&amp;window[n].process();else if(!e.getElementById(s)){var r=e.createElement(&#8220;script&#8221;);r.async=1,r.id=s,r.src=i,o.parentNode.insertBefore(r,o)}}(document,0,&#8221;infogram-async&#8221;,&#8221;https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed-loader-min.js&#8221;);<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Alan Gottlieb, the founder of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, raised an interesting point about the difficulty of defining a misdemeanor hate crime and the potential for anti-gunners to use this legislation to target law-abiding gun owners.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The devil is in the details,&#8221; Gottlieb told GunsAmerica in an email. &#8220;Who defines what a&nbsp;misdemeanor&nbsp;hate crime is? Is protesting and calling&nbsp;an anti-gun politician an ugly name a hate crime?&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I have no doubt that this will get out of hand and only disenfranchise legitimate firearms ownership,&#8221; he continued, adding &#8220;Congressman David N.
