Hot take time: semi-auto .22s are the new subcompact striker-fired handgun. They\u2019re everywhere! A different company introduces a new angle on Ruger\u2019s plinker every year, and given the increasing popularity of .22LR competition, there\u2019s no sign of slowing down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bergara joined the fray at this year\u2019s NRA Annual Meetings\nand Exhibits, and we swung by their booth to see what all the fuss was about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reps for the Spanish rifle company were more than happy to\ntell us about the new BRX, a semi-auto .22LR that looks more like a custom\n10\/22 than anything you\u2019d get from the factory. The BRX will be available summer\nof 2019 with either a chromoly black Cerakote barrel for $565 MSRP or a carbon\nfiber barrel for $659 MSRP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have had our eye on the rimfire space for several years\nnow,\u201d Nate Treadaway, CEO of Bergara parent company BPI Outdoors, said about\nthe rifle\u2019s release. \u201cNot only is it a very close alignment to our core\ncustomer base but we are already familiar with how to make an extremely\naccurate barrel. The BXR just happens to be the first of several models to come\nfrom Bergara and will fill a void between the featureless mass-produced models\nand overly priced boutique offerings.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our first question\u2014is the BRX compatible with aftermarket 10\/22 parts?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes and no. The trigger group and the magazine can be\nswitched for anything you can find on the 10\/22 market, but everything else is\nproprietary to Bergara. So, no barrel, bolt, or stock swaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But you may not want to change anything. Only an accuracy\ntest can say for sure, but we\u2019d bet these rifles will group with the best of\nthem. Bergara has made a name for itself producing super-accurate rifles, and\nthe BRX isn\u2019t likely to be much different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The model with the carbon fiber barrel is especially slick.\nThe weight difference is noticeable, and the action is buttery smooth. And at\n$595 MSRP, you can expect these go for something under $500 on the street. (For\ncontext, Ruger\u2019s new Custom Shop Competition 10\/22 is selling for just under\n$700.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, we\u2019re intrigued. \u201cSummer of 2019\u201d is a big window,\nand Bergara reps told us they don\u2019t have any samples available for testing and evaluation.\nBut we\u2019ll get our hands on one as soon as we can, so keep checking GunsAmerica\nfor a complete review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
