Without military backing, the largely disarmed population has little to fight Maduro and his renewed forces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to acknowledge that yesterday there were not enough (people), we have to insist that all the armed forces protest together,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/miami.cbslocal.com\/2019\/05\/02\/venezuelas-juan-guaido-admits-he-needs-more-military-support-trump-warns-of-worse-to-come\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"disarmed-venezuelans-lose-momentum-after-days-of-conflict\" title=\"Disarmed Venezuelans Lose Momentum After Days of Conflict\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said Guaid\u00f3<\/a>. \u201cWe are not asking for a confrontation. We are not asking for a confrontation among brothers, it\u2019s the opposite. We just want them to be on the side of the people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MSNBC reporter Kerry Sanders pointed out that the balance of power may possibly have never been in the hands of the protesters in the first place. Under Hugo Chavez, Venezuela passed a gun ban in 2012 leading to confiscation and arrests as early as 2013.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not only hanging on but he appears to still control the military,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/issues\/msnbc-report-on-venezuela-makes-case-for-second-amendment\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"disarmed-venezuelans-lose-momentum-after-days-of-conflict\" title=\"Disarmed Venezuelans Lose Momentum After Days of Conflict\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said Sanders<\/a>. &#8220;You have to understand, in Venezuela gun ownership is not something that&#8217;s open to everybody. So if the military have the guns, they have the power and as long as Nicol\u00e1s Maduro controls the military, he controls the country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The realities of fighting a military regime unarmed was not unnoticed by Venezuelans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGuns would have served as a vital pillar to remaining a free people, or at least able to put up a fight,\u201d said Javier Vanegas, a Venezuelan teacher of English now exiled in Ecuador, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/venezuela-disarmed-population\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"disarmed-venezuelans-lose-momentum-after-days-of-conflict\" title=\"Disarmed Venezuelans Lose Momentum After Days of Conflict\">late last year<\/a>. \u201cThe government security forces, at the beginning of this debacle, knew they had no real opposition to their force. Videos of an armored personnel carrier running over protesters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=T4Gq4jXnqts\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"disarmed-venezuelans-lose-momentum-after-days-of-conflict\" title=\"Disarmed Venezuelans Lose Momentum After Days of Conflict\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has also surfaced (graphic)<\/a>.
