Glock announced at the 2019 NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits that their popular G45 model will now be available with the company\u2019s new Modular Optic System (MOS), allowing users to mount many of the most popular micro reflex sights without permanently modifying the slide.<\/p>\n

The move signals what many in the industry have been anticipating: a growing number of law enforcement and military units are likely set to adopt electronic optics on their duty sidearms, and handgun companies are rising to meet the demand.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the industry trends toward pistol mounted optics, the G45 MOS has become my go-to platform when working with LE and Military,\u201d said GLOCK Team Captain, Shane Coley. \u201cWith the ability to have iron sights or optics, the possibilities are endless and we are able to better support our customers\u2019 preferences.\u00a0 Even the competition world has emerged with the Carry Optics division where Team GLOCK has had numerous wins and championships.\u201d<\/p>\n

Glock\u2019s MOS system is already available for G17, G19, and G34 models. It uses four adapter plates to allow users to mount micro red dots from companies like Eotech, Trijicon, Leupold, and Aimpoint.<\/p>\n

Glock reps told GunsAmerica at NRAAM that while the plates will fit most sights, some companies provide their own plates that can be incorporated into Glock\u2019s system. They specifically mentioned using the plates provided by Shield Sights<\/a>, which allow the extra-small optic to sit lower on the slide and co-witness with standard iron sights.<\/p>\n

Glock released the G45 last year as part of the industry trend towards modularity\u2014the G45 combines the full-size G17 frame with the smaller G19 slide. Glock reps told GunsAmerica at NRAAM that they developed the G45 after law enforcement requested the compact frame\/full-size slide hybrid that had previously only existed in the coyote tan G19X.<\/p>\n

Not being fans of the G19X color, agencies requested a black version of the G19X along with slight modifications to the slide and mag well. Glock developed the G45 to accommodate these requests, and now LE\/military agencies will be able to order an optics-ready version. The G45 MOS incorporates the 5th Generation elements such as the ambidextrous slide- stop lever, the Modular Backstrap System, and the match-grade, GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GMB) for increased accuracy.\u00a0 Both the slide and barrel feature the nDLC finish, the removal of the half-moon cut seen on previous Gen5 models, and the addition of front serrations on the slide.<\/p>\n
