Owners of prohibited firearms will have until September to turn \u2018em over or else face penalties ranging from 2 to 10 years in prison depending on the offense.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the reading Wednesday, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/nz\/news\/article.cfm?c_id=1&amp;objectid=12221141\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hogg-new-zealand-gun-ban\" title=\"David Hogg Praises New Zealand Gun Ban, Chides U.S. Government \u2018Owned\u2019 By Gun Makers\">spoke about her shock<\/a> when learning that semiautomatic firearms were widely available to citizens and the need to forgo the standard political process to immediately change the laws.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I could not fathom how weapons that could cause such destruction and large-scale death could have been obtained legally in this country. I could not fathom that,&#8221; Ardern explained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I could not hand-on-heart go down and face not just the media, not just the public, but the victims that had been left behind from this terror attack and tell them hand-on-heart that our system and our laws allow these guns to be available and that was okay. Because it was not.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I made a decision after that briefing that I would go down that day and, without having the chance to question the Parliament, know that Parliament would be with me. The unconstitutional NY <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/5-reasons-safe-acts-gun-ban-list-disaster\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hogg-new-zealand-gun-ban\" title=\"David Hogg Praises New Zealand Gun Ban, Chides U.S. Government \u2018Owned\u2019 By Gun Makers\">SAFE Act<\/a> was rammed through the state legislature in 2013 approximately one month after the mass killing at Sandy Hook Elementary School.<\/p>\n<p>As with The Arms Amendment Bill, the SAFE Act was deliberately fast-tracked before emotions cooled and constituents could speak out to representatives about the significant flaws of the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Hogg, for his part, still claims that he is not trying to take anyone\u2019s firearms. In a recent speech for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apbspeakers.com\/speaker\/david-hogg\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hogg-new-zealand-gun-ban\" title=\"David Hogg Praises New Zealand Gun Ban, Chides U.S. Government \u2018Owned\u2019 By Gun Makers\">American Program Bureau<\/a>, Hogg explained that he doesn\u2019t favor disarming an individual unless they are a prohibited person or an individual at risk of being a danger to themselves or others. See the video below.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kY6yFucRWW8\" width=\"854\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The problem with this stance is that one cannot simultaneous applaud a country for confiscating hundreds of thousands of firearms from its citizens on one hand, and then, on the other, lament that something similar isn\u2019t being done here in the U.S. because the government is \u201cowned by gun manufacturers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hogg, if he wants to be taken seriously, should at least have the balls to admit that disarming Americans is the end game.
