Zebrowski Facebook<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In what could be a classic case of a solution in search of a problem, the New York state legislature has voted to lower the threshold for hunting while intoxicated from a blood-alcohol level of 0.10 to 0.08. The new standard aligns with the state\u2019s threshold for driving and boating while intoxicated, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adirondackexplorer.org\/explorer_reports\/ny-legislature-lowers-limit-for-hunting-while-intoxicated\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-new-york-hunting-intoxicated\" title=\"New York Lowers Threshold for Hunting While Intoxicated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local media<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese changes were based in part on studies which determined that this level of alcohol in an individual\u2019s bloodstream can result in substantially impaired motor skills, perception and judgment,\u201d Assemblyman Kenneth Zebrowski wrote in his <a href=\"https:\/\/nyassembly.gov\/leg\/?default_fld=&amp;leg_video=&amp;bn=A03471&amp;term=2019&amp;Summary=Y&amp;Memo=Y&amp;Text=Y&amp;Chamber%26nbspVideo%2FTranscript=Y\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-new-york-hunting-intoxicated\" title=\"New York Lowers Threshold for Hunting While Intoxicated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sponsor\u2019s memo<\/a>. \u201cThese are also critical skills used in hunting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He identified several other states that recently set their intoxicated thresholds at 0.08 percent and claims that Connecticut and Pennsylvania have legislation pending to do the same.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn individual who is too intoxicated to drive a car or pilot a boat is also unfit to engage in hunting and the increased risk is not only to the hunter, but to everyone else in the field,\u201d Zebrowski, a Rockland County Democrat, wrote. \u201cThis bill would ensure a consistent standard for intoxication in state law.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>SEE ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/hunt365-cz-712-green-g2-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-new-york-hunting-intoxicated\" title=\"New York Lowers Threshold for Hunting While Intoxicated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CZ 712 G2 Shotgun \u2013 Best Budget Semi-Auto Hunting Shotgun Tested \u2013 Review (videos)<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>As much as responsible hunters support the safe, non-intoxicated practice of the sport, there doesn\u2019t appear to be an epidemic of drunken hunting in New York. Officials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wkbw.com\/news\/local-news\/bill-would-lower-threshold-for-hunting-while-intoxicated\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-new-york-hunting-intoxicated\" title=\"New York Lowers Threshold for Hunting While Intoxicated\">say<\/a> that conservation officers issue less than a dozen citations for hunting while intoxicated annually, which represents less than 0.002% of the nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dec.ny.gov\/permits\/26368.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-new-york-hunting-intoxicated\" title=\"New York Lowers Threshold for Hunting While Intoxicated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">600,000 hunters in the state<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Still, it\u2019s tough to argue in favor of combining firearms and alcohol, and the measure passed the Assembly 147-1 and the Senate 56-5 without floor debates in either chamber. The bill now heads to Gov. Andrew Cuomo\u2019s desk.<\/p>\n<p>Hunting while intoxicated is a misdemeanor under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/laws\/ENV\/11-1209\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"hunt365-new-york-hunting-intoxicated\" title=\"New York Lowers Threshold for Hunting While Intoxicated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York\u2019s conservation law<\/a> and is punishable by up to a $500 fine and a year in jail and a two-year suspension of hunting licenses.
