(<em>Photo: NYSPNews.com<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>New York State Police have arrested Gregg Marinelli of Plattekill, New York on numerous alleged firearms charges.\u00a0 Marinelli, age 38, is a sergeant with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection Police.<\/p>\n<p>It is alleged that Marinelli manufactured dozens of rifles, including at least one fully automatic assault rifle, and sold them to individuals who are legally prohibited from possessing such weapons including members of an outlaw motorcycle group.\u00a0 In some instances, Marinelli delivered the weapons using his marked police car.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the weapons sold by Marinelli were &#8220;ghost&#8221; guns.\u00a0 These guns are manufactured without serial numbers or have had their serial numbers removed.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation into Marinelli&#8217;s activities arose out of a recent drug investigation called &#8220;Operation Bread, White and Blues,&#8221; which was concentrated on cocaine trafficking and the sale of narcotic pills by members of a self-proclaimed outlaw motorcycle club.\u00a0 During the course of the investigation, officers learned that Marinelli had alerted a suspect that he was a target.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the New York State Police, aided by the federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, obtained a search warrant for Marinelli&#8217;s home.\u00a0 When they conducted a search of the residence, they discovered gun parts, tools used to manufacture weapons, and numerous firearms.<\/p>\n<h2>SEE ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/teachers-now-have-confiscation-power-under-new-yorks-red-flag-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-cop-arrested-assault-rifles-prohibited-persons\" title=\"NY Cop Arrested for Making, Selling Assault Rifles to Prohibited Persons\">Teachers Now Have Confiscation Power Under New York\u2019s Red Flag Law<\/a><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_106826\" style=\"width: 263px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Marinelli-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-cop-arrested-assault-rifles-prohibited-persons\" title=\"NY Cop Arrested for Making, Selling Assault Rifles to Prohibited Persons\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-106826\" title=\"NY Cop Arrested for Making, Selling Assault Rifles to Prohibited Persons\" class=\" wp-image-106826\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Marinelli-1-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"NY Cop Arrested for Making, Selling Assault Rifles to Prohibited Persons\" width=\"253\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Marinelli-1-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Marinelli-1-120x150.jpg 120w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Marinelli-1.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 253px) 100vw, 253px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-106826\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sgt. (<em>Photo: NYSPNews<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyspnews.com\/article_display.cfm?article_id=66751\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-cop-arrested-assault-rifles-prohibited-persons\" title=\"NY Cop Arrested for Making, Selling Assault Rifles to Prohibited Persons\">press release<\/a> issued by the New York State Police, &#8220;Marinelli is charged with Criminal Sale of a Firearm 2nd Degree; Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree (as an accessory); Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree (as an accessory in the possession of a weapon he defaced); Manufacture\/Disposition of a Weapon (for manufacturing numerous assault rifles); Conspiracy 4th Degree (for conspiring to sell a loaded and defaced .40 caliber pistol); and Hindering Prosecution 2nd Degree (for alerting a suspect that he was the target of a police investigation).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Orange County District Attorney, David Hoovler, told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recordonline.com\/news\/20190301\/da-area-cop-made-sold-illegal-guns-tipped-off-drug-ring-suspect\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-cop-arrested-assault-rifles-prohibited-persons\" title=\"NY Cop Arrested for Making, Selling Assault Rifles to Prohibited Persons\">Times Herald-Record<\/a>, &#8220;I am enraged that a police officer would sell exactly the types of weapons that are used to kill innocent people, including police officers.\u00a0 The types of &#8216;ghost&#8217; guns which were recovered in this case are valuable to criminals precisely because they are difficult to trace.\u00a0 A police officer who alerts an armed drug dealer who has proudly proclaimed his status as &#8216;outlaw&#8217; motorcycle club member, that he is the subject of police investigation, not only compromises the investigation, but puts his fellow police officers at risk.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Marinelli is currently being held in the Orange County Jail.\u00a0 Bail was set by the Town of Deerpark Court in the amount of $200,000 cash or $600,000 surety bond.\u00a0 Marinelli&#8217;s next court appearance is scheduled for March 7, 2019.<\/p>\n<p><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"width: 0px;overflow: hidden;line-height: 0\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">***<a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/\" campaign=\"BuySellGA_Register\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\">Buy and Sell on GunsAmerica!<\/a>***<\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marinelli sold firearms to individuals who are legally barred from possessing such weapons.
