The new Scalarworks LEAP\/MAG is a flip-to-side 30mm magnifier mount.<\/p><\/div>\n

If you aren\u2019t familiar with Scalarworks<\/a>, they make some amazing optics mounts.\u00a0 <\/span>They have a number of offerings for all of your popular red dots from Trijicon to Aimpoint, as well as their one-piece scope mounts.\u00a0 <\/span>This year they are introducing something that people have been asking for, the LEAP\/MAG, a flip-to-side mount for the Aimpoint (or other 30mm tube) Magnifier.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now in fairness, there are a number of 30mm magnifier mounts out there, so what is unique with Scalarworks\u2019 LEAP\/MAG?\u00a0 <\/span>As it turns out, a number of things.\u00a0 <\/span>First off is the weight.\u00a0 <\/span>They offer the lightest Quick-Detach Aimpoint Magnifier on the market.\u00a0 <\/span>While for some people this may not be a big thing, if you carry a rifle further than the distance from your car to a shooting bay, this gets important fast.<\/span><\/p>\n

The LEAP\/MAG drops low and to the side, getting out of your way while helping to maintain the balance of the firearm.<\/p><\/div>\n

On top of the weight, or lack thereof, what I noticed was how short and low the magnifier sits.\u00a0 <\/span>When you flip the magnifier to the side, it sits low and hugs the top of the receiver.\u00a0 <\/span>What this does for the shooter is keeps your rifle balanced.\u00a0 <\/span>Rather than levering the magnifier out into space where it can bump and snag on things, it sits low and close to the receiver. <\/span><\/p>\n

The short throw of the LEAP\/MAG moves distinctly in-between the two positions.\u00a0 <\/span>And the mount uses Scalarworks proprietary recoil-proof thumbscrew with ball-detent attachment system.\u00a0 <\/span>Making for tool-free mounting on any rail.<\/span><\/p>\n

The tool-less mounting that Scalarworks uses is great. The last thing I want is to bring is proprietary tools in my range bag.<\/p><\/div>\n
