The Umarex Hammer .50 Caliber Air Rifle.<\/p><\/div>\n

If you are unfamiliar with the company Umarex, let’s just say they cover the spectrum of air rifles.\u00a0 <\/span>On the one hand you have some of their spring powered airsoft guns that have a muzzle velocity of 260fps, but then, on the other hand, you have the Hammer\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

The Umarex Hammer<\/a> is their new \u201cAir Rifle\u201d that makes you question if that is the right terminology for this beast.\u00a0 <\/span>Yes it is a rifle, yes it is powered by air, but that is where all similarities to what you think about typical air rifles stop.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Why?” — you ask.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Because for all intents and purposes the Hammer is a hunting rifle.\u00a0 <\/span>Not a small game hunting rifle, but a legitimate hunting rifle designed to kill pretty much any game.\u00a0 <\/span>Don\u2019t believe me?\u00a0 <\/span>Ask the Cape Horn buffalo that was taken down by it\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

A 2-round magazine holding .50 cal slugs.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Hammer uses a 24cu carbon fiber tank holding 4,500 psi of compressed gas.\u00a0 <\/span>Each shot is then regulated at 3,000 psi.\u00a0 <\/span>What will all that pressure give you?\u00a0 <\/span>It will move a .50 caliber 550-grain lead slug at 790fps.\u00a0 <\/span>That translates to 760 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle.\u00a0 <\/span>It will also sling a 350 grain at 900fps or a 180-grain ARX Airgun bullet at 1,130fps.\u00a0 <\/span>This makes for the most powerful production air rifle on the planet.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Umarex

A pressure gauge on the side lets you know how much air is left in the tank.<\/p><\/div>\n

The overall length of the rifle sits at 44 inches.\u00a0 It weighs 8.5lbs.\u00a0 <\/span>The trigger weight is about 4lbs and it has a safety selector located just above it on the right side of the rifle.\u00a0 <\/span>The rifle uses a two-round magazine coupled with a straight pull bolt requiring only 2lbs. of force and 2 inches of movement.\u00a0 <\/span>The Hammer has a MSRP of $799.<\/span><\/p>\n

You can, of course, use pressurized tanks to fill the\u00a0gun tank, but that might not always be available.\u00a0 <\/span>So you can actually use a hand pump to fill the tank, should you be out in the field or somewhere where a larger air tank isn\u2019t available.<\/span><\/p>\n

The safety selector is located on the right side of the rifle.<\/p><\/div>\n

How does it shoot?\u00a0 <\/span>Umarex claims it will put 3 rounds touching at 50 yards.\u00a0 <\/span>Out at the SHOT Show 2019 Range Day I didn\u2019t have the chance to shoot groups, but I did put a couple rounds through it.\u00a0 <\/span>It recoils more than your Red Ryder, that is for sure.\u00a0 <\/span>It is pleasant to shoot though.\u00a0 <\/span>The recoil isn\u2019t snappy at all, more of a slightly prolonged push.<\/span><\/p>\n
