(<em>Photo: Jayme Closs\/Facebook<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The neighbors who took in Jayme Closs, a Wisconsin teen who disappeared two months ago after her parents were found murdered, were ready in case the kidnapper returned looking for his victim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen our neighbor Jeanne came in\u00a0with Jayme,\u00a0she said: \u2018Get a gun. We don\u2019t know if he\u2019s after us,\u2019\u201d Kristin Kasinskas told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/neighbor-who-came-to-jayme-closs-aid-we-were-armed-and-ready-for-suspect-to-come-looking\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"closs-armed-and-ready\" title=\"Neighbors Who Sheltered Kidnapped Teen Jayme Closs Were 'Armed and Ready'\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>. \u201cSo we were armed and ready in case this person showed up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jeanne Nutter found Closs last week wandering through the woods after escaping from her alleged captor, 21-year-old Jake Thomas\u00a0Patterson. Nutter says the teenager was alone, skinny, and wasn\u2019t wearing a coat or gloves in the winter cold.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m lost, and I don&#8217;t know where I am, and I need help,&#8221; Nutter recalled Jayme saying.<\/p>\n<p>Nutter brought the girl to Kasinskas\u2019 nearby house to call the police. But while they waited, they knew that Patterson would likely be searching for her.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My neighbor and I &#8230; legitimately thought someone was coming for her,&#8221; Kasinskas explained to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/01\/14\/us\/jayme-closs-neighbor-armed\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"closs-armed-and-ready\" title=\"Neighbors Who Sheltered Kidnapped Teen Jayme Closs Were 'Armed and Ready'\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>. &#8220;We didn&#8217;t even really have time to be scared, it was happening quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>SEE ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/florida-homeowner-kills-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"closs-armed-and-ready\" title=\"Neighbors Who Sheltered Kidnapped Teen Jayme Closs Were 'Armed and Ready'\" rel=\"bookmark\">Florida Homeowner Fights Off Five Intruders, Kills One<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Kasinskas and her husband put their two children in the basement with the dogs &#8220;and told them to watch the TV until we said it was OK to come back upstairs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the couple and Nutter waited with Closs in their living room, watching through the windows and hoping police would soon arrive. When police finally pulled in twenty minutes later, the officers took Closs to safety and told the Kasinskas&#8217;s they may need to use their firearms.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The officer told us to get away from the windows and get downstairs,&#8221; Kasinskas said. &#8220;An officer sent my husband to the back door and told him to stand there with the gun in case he comes that way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Minutes later, the Kasinskas\u2019s and Nutter discovered that their anxieties were well-founded: Patterson was apprehended not far from their house. He kidnapped the teen and kept her captive 88 days in a home approximately 70 miles north of where she was last seen.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say Patterson\u2019s actions were premeditated and that he took \u201cmany proactive steps\u201d to get away with the kidnapping, including shaving his head so he wouldn\u2019t leave DNA evidence and deleting his social media accounts.<\/p>\n<p>He is charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and one count of kidnapping.
