FN America is expanding their successful 509 series with new “Midsize” models<\/a>, a standard model and a “Tactical” variant. Chambered for 9mm Luger, the base gun has a service-length 4-inch barrel and slide, and slightly shortened grip with a 15+1-round capacity.<\/p>\n

Based on the FNS-C, the FN 509 was developed for the military’s Modular Handgun System competition. While it wasn’t selected, the company went on to release the gun for commercial sale and shows no signs of slowing down.<\/p>\n

The new FN 509 Midsize is an all-purpose polymer-framed, striker fired service pistol. It weighs in at 26.5 ounces unloaded, measures 7.4 inches long, 5.2 inches tall and 1.3 inches at the controls. The tactical has a longer 4.5-inch barrel and weighs a little more.<\/p>\n

It has true ambidextrous controls and interchangeable backstraps to fit different hand sizes. It comes standard with 3-dot luminescent sights, a soft case,\u00a0and two magazines.<\/p>\n

“What truly sets FN products apart is the quality. When customers pick up the FN 509 in comparison to other striker-fired 9mm\u2019s, they instantly notice the ergonomics, premium finishes and price point that is competitive,” said FN vice president of marketing Chris Cole<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“With the FN 509 Midsize and FN 509 Tactical in black, customers will now have four additional FN options in the 9mm striker-fired category to choose from,” Cole said. “We believe that options are always a good thing and we\u2019re proud to provide them to our loyal customer base.”<\/p>\n

One of the standout features of the FNS and 509 is the very predictable, almost 2-stage-like trigger. It has a factory trigger pull set between 5.5 and 7.5 pounds with a very positive reset. The pistol has a passive trigger safety in addition to internal drop safeties.<\/p>\n

A law enforcement package is also available with factory night sights. For now both packages are “no safety” models without manual thumb safeties and an all-black color scheme, though that could change down the line.<\/p>\n

The Tactical model, like with the full-size 509, comes with raised suppressor sights, an extended, threaded barrel and a mini red dot sight cut on the slide. The Tactical has standard 1\/2-28 threads and the included thread cap has an integral O-ring to keep it from coming loose.<\/p>\n

The Midsize is compatible with factory 17- and 24-round magazines as well. FN America will showcase the new Midsize models at this year’s upcoming SHOT Show.<\/p>\n
