(<em>Photo: Screenshot KXLY<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Washington mini-mart owner Tan Ho has been robbed before, so when a man entered his business last Tuesday demanding money, he didn\u2019t hesitate to take action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said, &#8216;Give me money!&#8217;, and then I knew exactly what to do,\u201d Ho told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kxly.com\/news\/hillyard-store-owner-pulls-gun-on-armed-robber\/862935192\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"armed-minimart-owner\" title=\"Never Bring a Knife to a Gunfight: Armed Minimart Owner Sends Robber Packing\">KLXY<\/a>. The store owner was behind the cash register, where he keeps what appears to be an IWI Jericho 941 and a machete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI pulled out my gun &#8211; like this &#8211; and I pointed it right at him, and he ran.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The suspect knew he\u2019d gotten more than he bargained for, and he left the store in a matter of seconds. Police are still looking for the man, who they believe is around 5&#8217;5&#8243; and was last seen wearing a black hoodie and white pants. Here Are the Four Most Common Excuses<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Ho keeps his handgun in a leather thumb-snap holster attached to the counter. The report doesn\u2019t mention whether he keeps a round in the chamber, but in the surveillance footage, he appears to be trying to rack the slide.<\/p>\n<p>The mini-mart owner told KLXY this isn\u2019t the first time he\u2019s had to scare away a would-be robber. Last year a similar situation occurred with a similar result: the man ran without any money.<\/p>\n<p>Ho has good reason to take every precaution to protect his business. A recent FBI study found that Spokane is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.khq.com\/story\/38385298\/spokane-ranked-3rd-as-most-dangerous-city-for-property-crime\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"armed-minimart-owner\" title=\"Never Bring a Knife to a Gunfight: Armed Minimart Owner Sends Robber Packing\">third most dangerous city<\/a> in the United States in terms of property crime.<\/p>\n<p>Armed self-defense got more difficult for Washington gun owners earlier this month, however, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/draconian-i-1639-ballot-measure-passes-washington\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"armed-minimart-owner\" title=\"Never Bring a Knife to a Gunfight: Armed Minimart Owner Sends Robber Packing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the passage of I-1639<\/a>. The measure\u00a0bans the sale of semiautomatic rifles to adults under the age of 21, creates a registry of gun owners,\u00a0 and allows the state to charge a $25 fee on the sale of \u201cassault rifles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The law will also make it more difficult for people like Tan Ho to protect themselves and their businesses. It establishes a 10-day waiting period for certain purchases and holds gun owners liable for failing to secure firearms.<\/p>\n<p>This last requirement could prohibit the mini-mart owner from keeping
