How aware are you when you’re out in public? Do you size up individuals, assess a situation, look for exits, scan for potential threats?

A recent incident in Philadelphia serves as a reminder to always keep your head on a swivel. Watch your six. Try to avoid turning your back for too long.

From NBC Philadelphia:

Surveillance video captured an intense fight inside a Philadelphia deli in which a shot was fired after a suspect tried to rob a customer who happened to be armed and licensed to carry.

The suspect walked into the Hoagie City deli on the 600 block of North 40th Street back on August 9 at 12:10 a.m. Police say the suspect then grabbed a 22-year-old customer inside from behind and tried to rob him.

Surveillance cameras captured the customer, who was armed and licensed to carry, fight off the robber. As the two men fought, the customer’s gun fell from his hip. The two men then struggled over the gun until the robber was able to gain control. Police say he then fired one shot that narrowly missed the customer and struck the ceiling vent. The customer then chased the robber out of the store. The robber managed to escape however.

The suspect is described as a man in his early 20’s standing between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-10. He was last seen wearing a plaid checkered shirt with a red or orange colored shirt underneath and a red baseball cap.

Detectives say they believe they know who the suspect is based on the surveillance video and are in the process of obtaining a warrant.
If you have any information on this incident, please call Philadelphia Police.

Way too many people think carrying a gun is fun or cool. Most of them should leave their gun at home or not own them at. Concealed carry is not a hobby! It’s deadly serious and not for the careless or untrained. Sorry, some things that are legal are still not always a good idea.

Hmmm, discounting the video’s, wouldn’t skin color be just as important a part of the description as was the color of the hat and shirt? Just wondering.

That is exactly what I was going to say Mike. You should never be afraid to include the race of a suspect when giving descriptions. It is the truth. The only reason to not include that specific information because in these crime ridden areas it wouldbecome apparent even to the SHEEP who the majority of violent crimes are being commited by. You are doing the public a disservice by being politically correct and not including the race of a suspect if it is know. I live out West and the papers and tv always include the race if it is known. After all it is the truth if you print the information.

And if the victim successfully defended himself against this thug the news headline would have read “White man shoots unarmed Black man at deli counter.” And Hillary Clinton would be meeting with the locals telling them “we must address the Stand your Ground laws.”
Glad to see another state where the honest citizen is the one allowed to own a gun. If this happened in Baltimore it would have been the other way around.

The stupidity of criminals never cease to amaze me. Taking the pistol and discharging it jst turned it into armed robbery, illegal possession of a weapon while committing a violent crime, discharging a firearm in the course of committing a violent crime, assault & battery on two persons, menacing… He turned 5 yrs./out in 2 to 25, mandatory 15 before before they even consider you for parole.

I have to agree with Blasé, the guy came in to steal the victim’s firearm. The person with the CCW needs a more secure holster.

This thief was after this guys gun from the start!
    Watch video 2 closely.
When the thief gets behind the green shirt he is checking him out and mostly
focusing on his right side, watch his eyes. Then when you get the camera view from the back
the thief takes his right hand and pulls up the green shirt on the right side hip.

At the end the green shirt is chasing the thief out of the store. The thief didn’t try
to rob anybody with the gun, he wanted the gun.

maybe, but it could just as easily be that he was going for the guy’s wallet, since that is where men keep their wallets(or maybe where he saw the imprint of the customers wallet.)
