Law enforcement, EMT, and military personnel make a living staying calm during times of crisis.
Looks like we can add “Jimmy John’s employee” to the list.
Kansas City Police released a video on Thursday that shows Jimmy John’s Assistant GM Tuker Murray remain perfectly calm during an armed robbery, including several seconds with a gun pointed at his head.
“After he pulled [the gun] out, I mean, I wasn’t that worried about it to be honest,” Murray told TMZ. “He didn’t seem that intimidating.”
In the video, would-be thief Terry Rayford appears to order a sandwich, only to brandish a semi-automatic handgun (if you can identify it, leave a comment and help me out).
The gun jams when Rayford tries to chamber a round, but he appears not to notice. With his finger on the trigger and live rounds in the gun, Rayford points the firearm at Murray’s chest and head.
While his fellow employee panics in the background (you can see his hands wave in the bottom right corner of the video), Murray calmly removes his glove (can’t get food on the cash!), empties the register, and hands Rayford a grand total of $280.
Here’s the best part. As Rayford begins to leave, Murray tries to give him the entire cash tray. Rayford looks at him, points the gun, and appears to say something like, “No, you keep it.”
While Murray couldn’t have acted much more judiciously, he almost tried to be a hero.
“If I had known one hundred percent that the gun was jammed, I probably would have grabbed, you know, grabbed it out of his hand when he leaned over the counter like that,” he told TMZ.
Even if the gun was jammed, grabbing for it could have bumped it into battery, and this story would have ended much differently.
Rayford is now in custody, and the investigation is continuing, according to the KCPD.
How would you have handled this situation if you were working at that Jimmy John’s location?
It’s Witness Polymer Compact 8+1 45ACP with a 3.6″ Barrel.
Awesome job on the part of the cashier. He hands the cash tray over to the perp, so he can get his finger prints on something other than the front door. He was definitely paying attention in class. GREAT JOB!!!
From DOJ website
Today’s criminal complaint alleges that Rayford was in possession of a Witness-P .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun and a Jimenez 9mm semi-automatic handgun on Thursday, April 27, 2017.
For something as blatant as this and with no confusion at all about guilt – cut off his right hand. If he tries to do it again, cut off his left hand. If he tries again, execute him.
Don’t do the crime if you can’t take the punishment. That’s called deterrence.
THE GUN JAMMED REACH UP GRAB IT AND HIT THE BASTARD WITH THE REGISTER DRAWER TILL HE IS UNCONCHOUS!!!
Why would you do that? I can guarantee the company has told him just give the robber what they want. The 280.00 from the till is nothing compared to an employee getting killed during a robbery.
Probably a SCCY P.O.S. And I don’t have to tell you what P.O.S. stands for.
“I DON’T GO DOWN MY BLOCK, WITHOUT MY GLOCK BEING COCKED !!!”
Our wannbe robber did not adhere to that wisdom. Although it does not L@@K like a Glock.
Our JJ Defender should have opened the register, stepped back and let him take the tray.
THEN, drawing his Colt .45 acp, ending the wannbe robbers career suddenly.
MORAL: When that GLOCK locks up on you, throw it in the ditch, and reach for a COLT.
NEVER had one of my Glocks JAM….keep my Colts in the safe….Anyone that would say such a thing needs more trigger time in a real world environment.
Absolutely NOT a Ruger American. The rear sights are too far forward on the slide. The American has a spring guide rod which protrudes beyond the end of the barrel when the slide is retracted the amount shown in the video.
Maybe it’s a Canik? It is 100% absolutely not a Ruger American. I am holding one here as I compare the full screen video, so it is not a guess on my part.
I’d say the guy acted perfectly. What hands me a laugh is the perp racking the slide. Here’s a guy who watches WAY too much TV. Who goes to a robbery without a round chambered, except EVERYBODY on TV? Ever notice on TV how everyone simultaneously puts a round into battery? Then, after the tensions rise, they do it AGAIN (without ejecting a round)? It would be hilarious if it weren’t so sad, and this is exactly where Joe Public gets his ideas about firearms. Which is why the public has been duped into thinking that law enforcement can wait until they are actually drawn down on before reacting.
Repeat offenders need to be locked away for life. No more releasing these criminals, over, and over, and over, and over again. Only to have them constantly commit crimes like this. Some say ‘three times’ ….I say after the second time, put them away for good! They were given a chance the first time to change their ways, which evidently failed. Also, we need penitentiary reform. No more Prisoners running the system! Write to President Trump, make it so!
Looks and acts like a Taurus Millenium G2. I work at gun range, and have seen it malfunction dozens of times.
That was a very clear picture. Please tell me this guy was picked up.
Witness P 45.
Correct, Witness P 45 according to the police: vhttps://www.justice.gov/usao-wdmo/pr/kc-man-charged-illegal-firearm-after-jimmy-johns-robbery
Appears to be a guy who is unfamiliar with semi-auto pistols. The barrel end is 3/4 of an inch protruding beyond the slide. The bullet that was in the chamber is now sideways in the receiver. The firing pin can’t strike the primer. It might be one time a sharp knife 🔪 could beat a gun.
NOT A GLOCK, this gun has a rounded trigger guard, shiny brushed or stainless barrel, and a very long tapered rear sight. I was going FN but couldn’t match a shinny barrel on a blued/dark gun. Was leaning to a Ruger 9E but could not see a shinny serial# plate above the grip line. I believe its a Ruger American Pistol.
I concur, Sir.. It looks to be a ‘Ruger American’ The “Failure To Feed jam” could be due to it being new, filthy, or just not being racked “briskly” enough. Lucky kid
The Glock was jammed with a shell in the ejector and the guy could not have gotten a shot off if he had wanted too.
I have to admire the guy for staying calm and not inducing hysteria into the equation. As for the criminal, Armed Robbery usually isn’t your first crime of choice, so saying he’s in custody doesn’t mean anything to me. He’s probably been arrested multiple times yet keeps getting released. Why? We need to do two things. We need to amend the 8th Amendment to read that executing the repeat offender is not cruel and unusual punishment, then we need a federal law that says anybody convicted of 3 separate violent felonies gets executed. It is time we stop these repeat offenders.
Amen!
looks like a Glock 19 Gen 5 or 6…no, definitely 6, with a magpul mag and mag well, a zev trigger with a 3-1/2 lbs. spring, a lone wolf barrel with Trijicon Bright & Tough Night Sights, and a Vickers Tac slide release and from the sheen on the pistol, must have been either cleaned recently with Fireclean or veggy oil….that’s all I can tell from the pic, oh yea, and remington ammo….I think that’s all I can tell from the pic. (lol)
You forgot the partridge in a pear tree.
