I’ve always been a fan of Vince Vaughn. Sure, he is a bit one dimensional in terms of his acting, apart from his role in “Psycho” and this latest role in HBO’s “True Detective,” Vaughn indubitably plays the fast-talking funny guy.
But on occasion, who doesn’t love the fast-talking funny guy? What is “Swingers” without Trent? What is “Old School” without Beanie? What is “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” without Eddie?
What I didn’t know about Vaughn is that he is a supporter of the Second Amendment. Here is what he told GQ in a recent interview:
“I support people having a gun in public full stop[sic], not just in your home. We don’t have the right to bear arms because of burglars; we have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government. It’s not about duck hunting; it’s about the ability of the individual. It’s the same reason we have freedom of speech. It’s well known that the greatest defence against an intruder is the sound of a gun hammer being pulled back. All these gun shootings that have gone down in America since 1950, only one or maybe two have happened in non-gun-free zones. Take mass shootings. They’ve only happened in places that don’t allow guns. These people are sick in the head and are going to kill innocent people. They are looking to slaughter defenceless human beings. They do not want confrontation. In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these f***ing schools because they know there are no guns there. They are monsters killing six-year-olds.”
Pretty cool statement. Unlike most of the Hollywood elite, Vaughn appears to get it. I’ll have to add him to my list of “Top 5 Pro-Gun Celebrities.”

The problem with people who have a mental health issue is that we only find out after they have committed a horrific crime.
Add into that civil rights attorneys, doctors, and government on state and fed level and they can dam near classify anyone with a mental health issue.
People who are a harm to themselves or the general public are placed in institutions (for the most part) it’s these sleeper cells that we need to crack down on and it’s almost impossible.
My theory is more guns being carried by trained, competent people to have the ability to take down an active shooter or at least defend themselves, and shut the media down from glorifying these barbaric events.
Vince is right on the Right To own firearms. I like his movies too.
Actually George, sevenheart you’re both wrong. It was Jimmy Carter who started allowing mentally ill people to refuse help as it was ” holding them against their will “. Some of these people NEED to be kept safe from both the other predators and themselves.
Yep. It was the old foolish peanut farmer who pulled that crapola, at the expense of many mentally disabled. I was a young cop at the time &, first hand, got to see what happened to lots of the mentally ill when they were turned out onto the streets without any of the abilities to survive let alone cope with the realities of life. It was pitiful & still is.
When a society refuses to take care of their TRULY needy, that society is not long for this world. LBJ’s “Great Society” & it’s ramifications was the first big spike in the coffin that is America while Carter’s folly is the second & the beige bozo’s myriad of Evil works will be the final nails.
Hi George, good points. Just one correction, it was Bill Clinton who relaxed the laws on mentally ill people. He made it possible for sick people to refuse to be restrained against their will regardless of their condition. Never mind that they may not be in a mental state to make good decisions for themselves. So many became homeless and no one is better off. The law even went so far as to prohibit restraints to prevent the elderly from falling out of bed in nursing homes. My wife was working at a nursing home when these laws were implemented and she was furious about the unnecessary injuries from falls that her patients began to experience. You couldn’t even “put up the sides’ on a bed.

On the aside, I’m guessing that he has already determined that he’s gotten all he wants or cares to from Hollywood because making speeches like this will not place him in the top spot for roles in movies. It just might get him silently blacklisted..and I suspect that he knows this. Maybe he’s made his ‘cake’ and is good with whatever happens next..
Vince sees the problem, but only one segment of it, the crazies shooting up schools. But the one thing that we are totally missing is that crazies use knives, bats, cars, etc. to murder people. We don’t need gun control, we need “crazy control”. Ever since Ronald Reagan relaxed the mental health laws the death of innocent people by the mentally ill have skyrocketed. How many more children must lie dead of the playground for society to see the problem?
