Video Proves Bill Maher is A Closeted Pro-Gunner

Bill Maher is a closeted pro-2A supporter.  Yes, I know he’s said some crazy crap over the years about our right to keep and bear arms, including back in 2013 when he said it was “Bullshit.”

But in a recent debate over guns on his HBO show “Real Time,” with rapper Killer Mike and Clinton crony Robert Reich, the 62-year-old comedian made some remarks that suggest he is, despite his Liberal bonafides, a pro-gunner at heart.  Or short of that, Maher has been paying attention to the issue more and more over the years.  And unlike most Libs, he is not willing to rest on anti-gun platitudes to make his argument.

Gun Owner

Maher acknowledges, as he’s done in the past, that he is a gun owner.

“I’m not a gun expert. I don’t like guns,” said Maher.  “I’ve said many times that I have a gun, because self-reliance. And because the police might not get there, yada yada yada.”

First off, he admits what few nannystaters ever would.  Big Brother will not be there to protect you in your time of need.  When seconds count, the police are minutes away.  Even in La La Land.

Second, sure, he doesn’t like guns.  But one doesn’t need to like guns to understand that you are ultimately responsible for your safety. As such, you have two choices.  Prepare or don’t prepare.  Common sense or self-preservation has led Maher to choose the former.

Lastly, Maher doesn’t profess to be an expert on guns or the gun debate simply because he owns one.  Fudd’s do that.  “I’m an avid hunter, and I can tell you no one needs an AR-15.”  Maher was rather humble and willing to acknowledge his ignorance on the subject.

You’ll never hear Feinstein or Bloomberg or Schumer be so candid about how little they know about guns.

Assault Weapon Fallacy

When Reich says that we need to implement “universal background checks” and reinstate a ban on “assault weapons” Maher pushes back quite forcefully.

“But there was I think only 400 deaths from all types of rifles last year. I don’t know if that is the key issue,” said Maher.  “It’s a big applause break for liberals when you say assault weapons, but the Virginia Tech shooting was the biggest one ever and that was a handgun.”

Fact check: Virginia Tech was the deadliest school shooting on record.  It’s the third deadliest mass shooting behind Las Vegas and Pulse Nightclub in U.S. History.  Nevertheless, the point rings true.  Common handguns can be used by evil men to kill a lot of people, especially in places where there is little to no armed resistance.

Banning so-called “assault weapons” is not a panacea to gun-related violence.  Moonbats love to say it because, as Maher noted, it gets applause, but anyone with any real knowledge of stats related to gun crime will tell you that it’s just a misguided talking point.

Oh, and all crime (gun crime, property crime, the homicide rate) continued to drop after the Clinton ban expired in 2004.

Anti-Gunner Ignorance

This was awesome.  When Reich said that it was “critical” to enact those aforementioned regulations, Maher said what few anti-gunners would every publicly admit.

“Why is that critical? Because one of the problems gun people have with liberals talking about guns is that liberals don’t know what they’re talking about guns,” he exclaimed.

Utterly honest and utterly brilliant.  As mentioned, you’ll never hear that admission from the leaders of the anti-gun movement.

2A is to Prevent Tyranny

The 2A is not about hunting.  It’s about keeping tyranny in check.  Maher gets this.  And he is wondering why more Lefties aren’t catching on given that their version of the antichrist is in the White House.

“But when you talk about tyranny… I’ve been saying for a long time that Donald Trump is bringing fascism to this country. Madeleine Albright wrote an op-ed in the New York Times a few weeks ago saying the same thing. She said fascism is coming,” said Maher.

“Okay. The shoe’s on the other foot now. If you really believe that Donald Trump is an authoritarian leader capable of using force to suppress the opposition I wonder if liberals are going to be rethinking their feelings about guns a little bit,” he added.

It’s true.  If you really believe that the Trump era is going to be the end of America and we’ll be killing each other in the streets or fighting off government jackboots trying to strip away our rights then why the heck aren’t you doing all you can right now to prepare for it?

And suppose that is the case, why would you ever support banning “military style” weapons?  Wouldn’t you want to fight fire with fire?

Conclusion

Do I really believe Bill Maher is a closeted pro-gunner?  Nah, probably not.

Yet what he has shown us is that he is willing to consider data and info that contradicts the dogma of the anti-gun crowd.  He is for, as he put it, “diversity of thought,” which means to have conversations with people you might disagree with.  That’s refreshing.  Because most Liberal talking heads are all too happy to tell their audiences what they want to hear as opposed to telling them what they need to hear.

Who knows?  Maybe Bill will speak at next year’s NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits.  LOL.
