A state trooper in Chester County, Pennsylvania, shot an armed homeowner earlier this week after being shot at while attempting to help the homeowner with a house on fire.
According to investigators, state police responded to a house fire on Isabella Road in West Nantmeal Township at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Local Daily News tells us that the troopers were approaching on foot when they found the home fully engulfed in flames. The homeowner was standing in the doorway with a gun.
Despite being repeatedly instructed to drop his weapon, the homeowner continued to disregard the trooper’s instructions.
NBC10 reports that he even fired at them, prompting one state trooper to fire back, striking the man in the hand and leg.

Finding it now possible to approach, the officers immediately rendered aid and found a loaded revolver near the man.
The homeowner was taken to the Reading Hospital Trauma Center and “remains in critical but stable condition” according to multiple sources.
No one else was harmed during the incident. The authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
Following standard protocol, the trooper who shot the homeowner has been placed on administrative duty pending an investigation by the Chester County District Attorney’s Office and the Pennsylvania State Police Internal Affairs Division.
This situation highlights the challenges that law enforcement faces in responding to emergencies where there is a potential threat to public safety.
