We saw a lot of cool shotguns at Range Day during SHOT Show 2017. Here is a round up of the top five or so next level scatter guns.
1. Mossberg Compact Cruisers
Technically considered “Any Other Weapons,” Mossberg Compact Cruisers are based on the 500 and 590 family of shotguns. Lightweight, portable and easy to carry, they are an ideal truck gun or on-the-go scatter gun.

2. Mossberg Shockwave
If you like the Compact Cruisers, you’ll love the Mossberg Shockwave. It’s almost as compact, it’s significantly cheaper and the best part is, it’s non-NFA. That’s right, all the fun of a shortie with none of the NFA red tape.
The 590 Shockwave from Mossberg offers civilian shooters a 14-inch-barreled shotgun with no NFA restrictions.

3. EAA MKA 1919 Match
The EAA 1919 Match has been around for a few years but that doesn’t make it any less appealing. This Turkish-made, magazine-fed, semiautomatic AR-pattern shotgun is the real deal. It’s an improved version from the MKA 1919 XM, which had some notable issues.
Per the EAA website, the upgrades include: Ambidextrous Safety, Extended Bolt Release, Extended Magazine Release, Redesigned (Bolt, Locking Block and Action Block), Metal Floating Feed Ramp, two Gas Rings (Heavy Loads or Light Loads) and an easy take down system.
Those familiar with traditional AR functionality will have no problem running the MKA 1919.

4. Standard Manufacturing SP-12
Standard Manufacturing is mostly known for the DP-12, its bullpup-style, double-barreled, 12-gauge, pump gun that fires 16 rounds. But this year at SHOT, they showed off the SP-12 as well.

When compared to the DP-12, the SP-12 dials it back a bit in both price and flash. Put quite simply, it’s half the gun at half the price.
The SP-12 is a single-barreled, tactical 12-gauge sporting a pistol grip, adjustable stock, and 18 ½” rail mount. It features the same downward ejecting system in the DP-12, which means that like the DP-12, it’s ambidextrous, so southpaws will not have a problem loading or firing the gun.

5. Standard Manufacturing SKO
The SKO is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Like EAA’s MKA 1919, it is a 12-gauge, magazine fed, semiauto AR-pattern shotgun.
The SKO is inspired by the AR platform.
But unlike the MKA 1919, the SKO is made in America. While it’s not currently available for purchase, the SKO shows some real promise.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to see all the scatter guns at Range Day. There were some notable shotguns that we didn’t discover until we hit the showroom floor during the week. Those include Kel-Tec KSG with a 40+1 capacity, the Six12 Revolving Shotgun, and the Uzkon Bullpup 12 Gauge Gas Shotgun. Make sure you check those out at well.
The SP-12 would go well for around $600, IMHO. The rest – forgetaboutit. Also, it would really help if you had people in these videos who can actually correctly operate (read shoot right) the weapons. Take time and familiarize yourself with the guns first – you’re presenting these for individuals who are considering a purchase, so don’t do a half-assed job regardless of how ridiculous the guns themselves happen to be.
I hope the Mossbergs offer the option of interchangeable parts, such as furniture and barrels, otherwise I’m LMAO over here. What’s up with those tiny Aguila shot shells? If you’re too concerned about overpenetration, then get Glaser ammo for a pistol or revolver and be done with it, seriously! Home defense? Please, that’s offensive. These Mossbergs are more like role-playing game dummy models. On the go scatter gun? You’ve been watching re-runs of the Walking Dead! Earth to editors, this is ground control, do you copy?
Another expert heard from
