After four days drooling over the smorgasbord of guns at SHOT Show, it occurred to me that it might be a good idea to look at some bigger gun safes! I found just what the doctor ordered at the Liberty Safe booth. I’m telling you, if it has to do with shooting, chances are it’s here. In addition to the great paint job, this safe is set up to hold 64 guns. The tops of the middle shelves can be lifted to store more long guns or left in place to store handguns, valuables, important documents and so forth. You won’t have to worry about thieves walking out the door with it either. It weighs 915 pounds. Liberty has an optional Safe Alert security device which monitors your safe when you’re away. I have been a gun collector and a locksmith/safe technician for almost 50 years. I own a FatBoy 64, and am considering a second one. There are a lot of gun safes out there, but you will be hard pressed to find a better one than a Liberty FatBoy 60. You can spend a lot more money, and get a bigger one, with a fancy paint job, but you are paying for that paint job, and it won’t keep your guns any safer. Liberty gives you a lifetime warrantee with their safes. It it is ever in a fire, or someone messes it up trying to get it open, they will replace it free of charge. The will ship you a new one, and haul off the old one. They will even pay for a professional to get it open for you after a fire or an attempted break in. I have owned safes by three other manufacturers and the Liberty is by far, the best! just in case you are wondering, I have no affiliation with Liberty safe company. They just make good s%it!!!
I have a Fatboy Jr. which is fine for my modest collection. Sure I’d like to have 4 ga. steel and a fire rating of 6 hours but that isn’t going to happen. Jr. keeps my guns from being grabbed quickly and being hauled out the door just a quick. There’s no such thing as a safe that offers 100% protection. If someone wants your stuff bad enough they will get it. But a reasonable quality safe will slow down burglars at least a few minutes. That can be enough. And it will stop your average junkie from even trying to get at your stuff. They want to grab and go. My house was broken into a few months back when my daughter was living there alone. She was at work. They stole the old Mossberg shotgun I gave her and left the brand new S&W Bodyguard laying right beside where the shotgun was. Go figure. They aren’t exactly rocket scientists.
I don’t expect complete protection. I do get decent protection which is way better than nothing. I got a great deal on my Fatboy Jr. too. I got a good bit of room and a lot of accessories to choose from if I want them. It was the best deal I found on safes by far.
I love my Liberty Fatboy safe. Very easy to configure or reconfigure the safe to meet whatever your needs may be. Along with your firearms, there’s plenty of shelf space as well as the amount of firearms it can hold. I’m on the hunt for another Liberty safe. My firearm collection now has my Fatboy bustin at the seams, and would like another for ammo, parts I want locked up, documents, cash, my home survelliance DVR and a couple firearms as well. For the quality you get, the price is tough to beat.
Sadly lacking in this article and ensuing video is the thickness of steel on the body and door. The focus is more on ancillary features than it’s primary role. Isn’t it more important to keep the guns from being stolen in the first place? A quick look at Liberty’s website reveals the safe body is only 11 gauge steel. There are other safes out there that are 7 gauge to start with. Granted they will be about 1/3 more the price but if you’re placing $7000.00 plus worth of guns and gear in a safe you should reasonably spend at least 2/3 that for a safe.

Liberty offers a 7gauge in their National Security and Presidential Series. If you go to Libertysafe.com website, you can see all the Model Series and sizes. They offer any where from 30 Min. up to 2-1/2 hr fire certified ratings with even different size bolts.
i own a Liberty and i’m very pleased. i’m about to purchase a second and have no reason to look anywhere else.
