New for SHOT Show 2019, S&W is offering the Shield EZ  paired with a Crimson Trace green LaserGuard that is activated when the pistol is held in a firing grip.

The M&P 45 2.0 might not have been a sales dynamo, but to discerning clients, it made waves. As far as ergonomics go, Smith & Wesson did an excellent job.

Thirty or so years ago, the revolver was the predominant self-defense handgun. Though many still carry a revolver today, competency in the manipulation of wheel guns for self-defense is, if not a lost art, a skill that most revolver carriers lack. And not knowing how to run a revolver can get you or a loved one killed or injured.

Somehow, the folks at Smith’s Performance Center have made the 1911 mini-me in 9mm with all the bells and whistles that runs like a full-grown model.

Top investors in Smith & Wesson’s parent company, American Outdoor Brands (AOB), passed a resolution this week at their annual shareholder’s meeting that forces AOB to publish a report on the company’s role in “gun violence.” Investors want the gun maker to prove that it is adequately addressing the “risks” inherent in its products’ association with gun-related violence and to show evidence the company is exploring ways to reduce this violence by making guns safer.

Smith & Wesson is adding two new Compact models to their M&P M2.0 series chambered for .45 ACP. They are available with and without thumb safeties.

The M1911 was the finest combat handgun at the time of the World Wars. For close range firepower and reliability, nothing beat the M1917 revolver.

Then Smith produced the Model 640 Pro Series, perhaps the best J-frame ever! The Model 640 Pro is a Performance Center pistol that reminds me of the Smiths of old. The 640 Pro is based on a Model 640, stainless, five shot .357 Magnum, with a 2.125” barrel.

I was ready to rock ‘n roll earlier this month when I made my way to central Texas to try my hand at a 1000-yard target with the new Long-Range Rifle (LRR) from Smith & Wesson’s Performance Center and Thompson/Center. Like many gun owners in 2018, my long-range shooting knowledge exceeded my experience. I’ve been geeking out about D.O.P.E. cards, bullet trajectories, and MIL vs. MOA for years, but I hadn’t had many chances to pull the trigger.
