Democrats and gun control activists have renewed their calls for gun control after a legally armed parishioner shot and killed a gunman who opened fire with a shotgun during a church service on Sunday.

Details are still forthcoming, but several news outlets in Fort Wayne, Indiana, are reporting an incident in which a homeowner shot through his front door at burglars pretending to be Christmas carolers.

“I am from Kingstontown in Jamaica,” he said, “and I am not going to go out like a punk. So I emptied my Glock in his chest. This man tried to get in my van while I was sleeping and he was surprised to see what I did.”

“I said, ‘You just lay still. I got another shell in here. You just lay still, be quiet, there’s help coming,” he said.

“I mean I got the gun for that purpose, but I never thought I would really have to use it. Like, I never thought I would have to use it ever.”

A Georgia man shot and killed three masked teens who were attempting to rob his home early Monday morning, local media reports. The teens approached the home just before 4 a.m., and one of them fired a gun at the three residents who were standing in the front yard.
