I got the New York blues. After years down in Kentucky, I’m in the process of moving back to Upstate New York.

The Round of the Future: The 6.5 Creedmoor
BY Clay Martin Published: September 19, 2017 { 22 comments }The 6.5 Creedmor isn’t a new round, it was introduced in 2008 by Hornady. But this will be remembered as the year it began its dominance in the market place. In reference to .308, I think the words of Winston Churchill say it best. “This is not the end, this is not even the beginning of the end, this is just perhaps the end of the beginning.”

Going the Distance — Hornady’s 6mm Creedmoor
BY Eric Conn Published: September 15, 2017 { 9 comments }Since its introduction in 2007, Hornady has continued to hit the sweet spot among long-range shooters with the 6.5 Creedmoor. A modification of the .30 TC and ultimately an offspring of the .308 Win., the 6.5 Creedmoor is effective because it capably seats bullets with high sectional density and ballistic coefficients, which are remarkably adept at producing flat trajectories and handling the wind. The 6.5 is also popular among competition shooters because it successfully houses these long, sleek bullets in a case that still fits in standard AR-10-style magazines and short-action bolt guns. As a result, the cartridge has been popular in competition and among game hunters.
Garment Bag + Rifle Case? This Vertx Bag Combines the Best of Both Worlds
BY Jordan Michaels Published: September 15, 2017 { 0 comments }I live across the street from an elementary school. Needless to say, transporting a rifle from my house to the car can be an especially sensitive process.
Travelling with a rifle makes discretion even more difficult. I don’t like leaving my firearms in a hotel parking lot, but lugging a gun case across the lobby isn’t ideal, either. The Second Amendment protects my right to carry a gun when I travel, but I’d rather not have to deal with the over-eager bell boy who decides to call the police.
The Best Rifle Scope Ever Built: NightForce ATACR 7-35X
BY Clay Martin Published: September 15, 2017 { 13 comments }At this year’s SHOT Show, “Sniper Jesus” told me the new NightForce ATACR 7-35X was the best deal going in optics. I have anxiously been wanting to put this to the test. I begged, borrowed, cajoled, harassed, and arguably stalked NightForce for a review sample. Arguably stalked is a loose interpretation or so my lawyer tells me.
Earlier this week a box arrived from Orofino. And you know what? It was absolutely worth the wait.
HuffPost: How Many Guns Do We Need?
BY S.H. Blannelberry Published: September 14, 2017 { 78 comments }“In 2008, the year Obama won the presidency, there were 12.7 million background checks. In his last full year as president, 2016, there were 27.5 million. How many guns do we need? And, what is this really about?”

BY Jordan Michaels Published: September 13, 2017 { 16 comments }Earlier this year I noticed a Facebook ad for American Technology Network’s (ATN) new X-Sight II HD digital rifle scope. As firearm-related ads are wont to do, it called my name until I finally decided to check it out.
Gunfight Science: Get Your Gun Into the Fight
BY Fred Mastison Published: September 12, 2017 { 0 comments }A slow or sloppy presentation is akin to leisurely leaving the starting blocks when the starter’s gun goes off for a race. This is the case no matter where you carry your gun. While there are countless ways to carry, let’s look at two of the most common modes of carry (standard waistband carry and a pocket pistol) and how to effectively get them into the fight.
