build a gun

Several years back, I took a small ring Mauser 96, in 6.5×5,5 and turned it into a scout-type rifle. It later became a more traditional rifle with normal scope mounts and a turned-down bolt. In that configuration it became my loaner, backup, knock-around rifle for friends and relatives that asked to borrow a rifle for impromptu hunts. 

We finally wrapped up our Primary Arms pistol lower build, out of all the orphan parts. We had a lot of fun completely disregarding color schemes as we perused the sale pages and bought whatever was in stock. Which ended us with a 2A lower, radian safety, mag pul grip, and an AR Gold Trigger. Oh, and a CMMG RipBrace since this was a pistol configuration, one of my favorite parts to hit the market this year. So finally, we can get to the point. And the point was to make a 7.62×39 pistol from AR parts.

The FCU’s have been flowing for some time now, I know. But I wanted my first build to be something magical, and that has taken time to source parts for. Finally, everything came together this week. I, for one, think it was worth the wait.

I am very excited this week to bring you a science experiment a year in the making! Thanks to some willing donors of time and effort, we have brought to life a Frankenstein Monster. Like many of you, I had entirely too much time on my hands at the peak of the Bat Flu scare, aka China Coof syndrome. My brain turned to crazy ideas, and I started wondering why we have AR-15 pistols, but not AR-10 pistols?

The EPC from Aero Precision provides a great base to build the PCC you’ve always wanted. It’s accurate, easy shooting, reliable, and allows an AR enthusiast to build the gun they want, be it a rifle or pistol. My EPC might be large and in charge, but what would yours look like?

Going into this project, my expectations were low but the Zaffiri Precision ZPS.1 proved that quality is attainable at a realistic price point. It’s called value.

I set out to build the Ultimate 3 Gun Rifle, and I did. But I also accidentally built a rifle capable of PRS competition and hitting targets past 1000 yards.
