When the new XDM came up, I asked Springfield Armory if they were ready to dance. Not only did they say yes, but they knew a good ammo guy. My proposal was 10,000 rounds, every round shot on camera. That is a huge risk for a new gun, and I had no way of knowing if it would survive.

I’m a big fan of all things 10MM, and Speer got my attention recently when the ammunition maker announced the new Speer Gold Dot 10MM Auto Personal Defense round, firing a 200-grain Gold Dot bullet.

After two years in development, High Tower Armory is excited to say that their MBS 95 bullpup conversion kit for Hi-Point carbines is now shipping.

My holster came with a retention strap, though a full cover flap is also an option if you’re really worried about protecting the pistol from the elements. For a backcountry gun, the extra security of the retentions strap is worth the slight penalty in speed. And if you need to get ready for the O.K. Corral, it is easy to move it out of the way.

Improving on initial success, Springfield Armory is introducing a new variation of both models. Now, you have the factory option of the Heavy Operator with an RMR pre-installed, cut deep into the slide. I predict another big win, this is the perfect set up for a 10mm 1911.

“At only $439, this new carbine will shoot on a par with high dollar carbines and of course will send the bullet just as fast,” said Charles Brown, president of MKS Supply, LLC. “However, when enhanced by Realtree’s Edge camouflage not only is it impressive for power, range and accuracy it is flat out good looking!”

Over the past two years, it seems as if everyone and their brother has climbed on board the Pistol Caliber Carbine bandwagon.  Not Hi-Point though, it’s old hat for them.

You may ask, Why did it take so long? It has a lot more to do with engineering than marketing.
