Stoeger Industries is announcing a full line of concealed-carry pistols based on their modern STR-9 handgun, the new STR-9 Compact series. The STR-9 Compact includes budget models as well as fully featured guns with factory night sights.
The base model STR-9 Compact is a polymer-framed, double-stack, striker-fired handgun chambered for 9mm Luger. It has a standard capacity of 13+1 rounds and has a 3.8-inch barrel and slide.
With a slightly above-average barrel length compared to many subcompacts, the STR-9 Compact will give shooters a little longer sight radius as well as an advantage with muzzle velocities when shooting the same ammo. Like the full-size STR-9, the Compact uses interchangeable backstraps to suit shooters of different hand sizes.
The STR-9 Compact comes with shelf-style 3-dot sights, has forward and rear slide serrations and a reversible magazine release. The pistol uses a passive trigger safety with no manual safeties.
In addition to the interchangeable backstraps the grip features a light stipple texture similar to grip tape and has mild finger grooves along the frontstrap and checkering along the backstrap.
It’s a fairly lightweight design weighing in at 24 ounces unloaded and all the steel components have a black nitride finish for corrosion resistance and lubricity. But the main feature of the STR-9 is its bottom line: the base package including the handgun with one 13- or one 10-round magazine and a standard-size backstrap is just $329.
That means people can buy an STR-9 Compact for concealed-carry and an STR-9 full-size pistol for the nightstand for less than $700. STR pistols carry a 5-year warranty across the board.

Of course, that’s for the base model, though the most featured version still lists for just $449. That version comes with three magazines, three backstraps in different sizes and has factory-installed tritium night sights. For $389 Stoeger offers the STR-9 Compact with three mags, three backstraps, and standard 3-dot sights.
Real-world pricing is typically even less making the STR-9 a solid option from a solid company for anyone on a budget.
And though Stoeger is retiring the Cougar series of handguns, the STR series is shaping up to be a solid replacement with modern conveniences at an extremely competitive price point.

I live in New Orleans, LA. look at purchasing a STR 9 with the 3 back straps and 3 mags wondering if you tell me who would have one near me.
I’m more of a .45 cal.guy. Anything in the old man caliber series?
Regards

I have the full size version. Cross between a glock and a HK. Great trigger. Much better than a glock. I would be the compact version and carry it for sure.
No real review of the gun itself? Or is this just a sales ad.
