CCRKBA: Media Needs to Start Calling Vehicles 'Assault Weapons'

A murderous madman killed ten people and wounded 15 others in Toronto on Monday.  His weapon of choice…  a rental van.

Leadership at the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is now calling for the liberal media to start correctly identifying vehicles for what they are: “assault vehicles” or even “assault weapons.”

After all, these death traps are responsible for killing 37,461 people in the U.S. in 2016.

“What happened in Toronto Monday was a horrible tragedy,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb in a press release. “Fatal vehicle attacks have been increasing. The 2016 Nice terror attack killed more than 80 people. Last year a man driving a rental truck killed eight people on a bicycle path in New York City. Also last year, 13 people were killed in Barcelona, eight more died in a car attack in London and four were killed in Stockholm. If a gun had been the weapon instead of a vehicle, all of those would have been mass shootings.

“How should we define an ‘assault vehicle,’” he wondered. “Is it a van or truck? Does it have a high-powered engine? Does it have an automatic transmission? Can it be fitted with a high capacity fuel tank? Do they all come in solid black, or are other colors available? Can they be equipped with large mufflers to suppress engine noise? Once we define them, should we ban them, require special training to operate them, or just raise the age limit to buy or rent one?

“Or is the problem the individual driver, rather than the equipment he turns into a weapon,” Gottlieb challenged. “Once you realize how absurd it is to call a car an ‘assault vehicle,’ you see the lunacy of defining, and then banning, so-called ‘assault rifles.’

“Instead,” he suggested, “we need to focus the blame where it belongs, on the deranged, violent person who commits the violent act. We don’t reflexively demonize every other motorist for the acts of a madman, so why do some people insist on penalizing every gun owner for the acts of criminals?

“The time has come to stop this blame-shifting nonsense,” Gottlieb said. “It is deceptive and dishonest, and doesn’t prevent or solve anything.”

Well we are running out of things to complain about, thus this one is a little over the top. LE is trained to us their cruisers as a weapon yet few of them do. Now in my state of SD I have carried for about 35 years, and I am guessing it was about 30 years ago when they issued the first CC permits, and of course I have had one for that many years. Now not in jest, it is harder to get a drivers licensee in SD then it is to get a CC, and it is much easier to get an FFL approval for whatever firearm I am in need of. My FFL is not overly happy with me as I am in favor of tighter control and regulation of our Firearms. Been There And Done that over the years, and it never really hurt anything. If I want any kind of insurance or a loan I have to jump threw more hops to get approved then I have to a get a firearm. Just don’t seem right to me. Course I have GrandKids, and I want to teach them to shoot and hunt just like I did my kids. Course they have a different world to live in so legal owners of a gun and a car will be helpful. Pick your fight, Free you Mind, and don’t listen to all the crap on the left nor the right.

No more JEEPS or HUMMERS and how about all of former military aircraft known as warbirds http://www.warbirds-eaa.org/ or all airplanes for that mater, had it not been for WW2 the development of modern air travel would have taken much longer. Do we have to stop using technological developments like food canning? The canning of food was developed to preserve food so Hannibal could feed his army of solders when they crossed the Alps, or how about that little invention called the internet after all it was developed as a weapon of WAR by DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency). https://www.darpa.mil/about-us/timeline/modern-internet

Then we should call electric vehicles “Stealth Assault Vehicles”.

This is yet another instance of a “gun free” zone tragedy. At least with a gub and a license those poor dead schmucks would have been able to defend themselves If it’s not an assault rental truck (because who want to damage their own vehicle) it’s an assault machete, assault knife, assault spoon, assault paperclip, etc…. LIBTARDS are the ruin of society.

Automobiles are dangrous when miss used, drunk drivers kill 10,000 to 11,000 people every year, who is at fault, the car, alcohol or the driver? This number used to be double that figure until they went after the drunk driver, they didnt try to ban alcohol which kills about 88,000 people per year, they went after the driver.
Cell phones kill about 3,500 people last year and injured 391,000, do we take away cell phones and cars, or do we go after the driver?
Rifles killed 374 people in 2016.

And while you’re at it, perhaps banning knives, (like the %#@!&head mayor of London wants to do), and baseball bats, fireplace tools, rocks, jagged glass, beer bottles, heavy Mag-lite flash lights, and the list goes on and on. Give them (the left wing-nuts liberals) an inch, they will end up taking many miles. Just look at history. It’s all about CONTROL, folks.

Absolutely, ban assault vans, universal background checks for van rentals, reduced capacity gas tanks for assault vans, age restrictions for van rentals. Sound silly doesn’t it, but substitute guns for vans and that is what’s being promoted in this country. It’s not the weapon, it’s the person using it. If I were to put my hand on a womans breast would that make it a sexual assault weapon?

    . . . well put!

  • Jason April 27, 2018, 7:49 am

My vehicle is painted white not black, therefore it cannot be an assault vehicle. 🙂
