At a recent town hall event in Gloucester, Mass., Elizabeth Warren addressed national concealed carry reciprocity.
Not surprisingly, the senator from Massachusetts is opposed to the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.
The NRA’s top legislative priority, the bill would allow permitted gun owners from May-Issue and Shall-Issue states, and law-abiding citizens from Constitutional Carry States to carry concealed nationwide.
No longer would one’s right to keep and bear arms end at state borders.
“That doesn’t work well for a state like Massachusetts that believes in sensible gun regulations because people can bring in guns from other places,” said Pocahontas. “The NRA (National Rifle Association) is now pushing Congress to roll over states like Massachusetts.
“We have to fight back,” she continued. “But let me make the larger point that America is ready for sensible gun rules for all of us. Right now, this country is held hostage by the NRA and it is time to fight back.”

Held hostage? If anyone is held hostage it’s the gun owners of Massachusetts.
As mentioned in a previous GunsAmerica article, state Attorney General Maura Healey put an end to the sale of black rifles with the stroke of a pen in July of 2016. State-compliant rifles that were legal to sell one day were deemed unlawful to sell the very next.
Healey also launched a “consumer safety” investigation into various firearms manufacturers, including Glock and Remington. She was sending a message to the gun industry. Basically, your products aren’t welcome here.
More recently, state lawmakers voted to ban bump stocks and trigger cranks. While that is certainly a knee-jerk reaction, what’s even crazier is that violators could receive life in prison! Not only that, there is no grandfather exemption. Bump stock owners must give up their lawfully acquired property– or else.
When Pocahontas talks about the “sensible” gun regulations of Massachusetts, that’s what she’s referring to. Laws that prevent out-of-state gun owners from carrying concealed. Bans on black rifles. Life in prison for the possession of range novelties like bump stocks and trigger cranks.
Food for thought. Especially for any gun owner considering supporting Warren in her future political endeavors.

While I am a supporter of the reciprocity act, I think it is flawed in allowing non-CCP issuing states to participate. The idea of a CCP is to demonstrate that the individual is of good character, has taken a gun safety course, and has no prior criminal acts or dishonorable discharges on his or her record. Non-CCP states could cause a problem by flooding the country with people with no training whatsoever. I would be in favor of requiring a state of residence issued CCP in order to enjoy reciprocity.

I’m in NH. We finally have our right to constitutional carry back! “HELL YEAH” I’ve carried for 37 years. Back when open carry was common. While open carry was legal in NH, somewhere somebody decided, to carry concealed you needed a permit. So, if was carrying open and I put a coat on which covered it up “concealing” it, I would be a criminal! Go figure…
I have always kept up my CCW because of that. NY & MA have me completely blocked in! I can’t drive to the rest of the US because of NY & MA and their F’ed up laws. I’m confined to the NE corner of the Country. Thank God for VT and ME or else I would be locked away in solitary…

I’m an NRA Basic Pistol instructor and retired LE and believe wholeheartedly that everyone should receive at least basic firearm training before carrying. That being said, the 2nd Amendment doesn’t say ” The Right of the People to keep and bear arms, after receiving the proper training, shall not be infringed. Training isn’t required to exercise any other Right, so why should the right to arm yourself be any different? And don’t give me that crap that the use of the 2nd can be more deadly than using the others. Far more people have been killed by evil folks using their Right of association and religion than those carrying a firearm to protect themselves. Self righteous”gun owner” are the 2nd Amendments worse enemy!
As free citizens, we should not be compelled to train to exercise our constitutional rights. I do believe if you don’t train and kill someone out of negligence, you should be accountable..
I have a CCW in CA which I get as a retired peace officer. I have to re-qualify every year. I think it should be every 6 months, but I still usually get a perfect score. I think more training is helpful. As a peace officer, I had to qualify every 3 months.

What about NY? I used to live in NH and had a n NH pistol permit. New York has always been a problem because of it’s rabid gun laws. If you live in New England, you are effectively cut off from the rest of the country because there is no way NY will allow anyone but a celebrity to carry and there is no way to get by NY without going around it through Canada which is even worse. Do you think reciprocity will address that problem?

They are not required to state their criminal background on the background check form, just whether they are telling the truth as to their identity. The background check should show their criminal background IF their past has been entered properly into the system. But, then again, when do criminals actually buy guns LEGALLY in the first place.
