PA Mom faces 3 years in prison for carrying concealed in NJ

A single mother of two is facing three years in prison for accidentally carrying a firearm into New Jersey, Fox News reports.

Shaneen Allen, 27, is a licensed concealed carry permit holder in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but when she was pulled over in New Jersey, for a routine traffic stop, she admitted to having a firearm on her person and was slapped with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of hollow point ammunition, charges that carry a mandatory minimum sentence of three years.

Upon being pulled over by New Jersey police, Allen admitted that she was carry a firearm for self-defense — a .380 Bersa Thunder handgun — which precipitated the charges.

“The officer knew there was a gun there, she was completely honest and open,” her attorney, Evan Nappen, said. “There are no aggravating factors in this case; she’s a single mom of two, working in the medical field who was robbed twice and that’s what inspired her to get a gun license in the first place.”

Now Allen is worried about her future and who will look out for her boys if she is incarcerated.

“I just want people to know that if you look at it through my eyes, mistakes happen,” Allen told FoxNews.com. “I just hope that everything turns out OK for me and my kids because I’m all they have.”

She also said that, as a new gun owners, she wish she would have taken the time to read up on various state and federal gun laws.

“I wish I was more aware of the law,” she explained. “And to anyone out there looking to purchase a firearm, know the law. I didn’t even get the chance to understand the laws. I only had it [the gun] a week.”

The cop said he “knew” she had a gun. How? I cant believe nobody has seized on this.

Pennsylvania notes on your driver’s license that you have a concealed carry permit. New Jersey regulates all firearms and even many non-fire arms including air rifles, slingshots and even potato cannons made of PVC tubing that use hair spray as a propellent. Also in NJ, if an out of stater has a gun in the vehicle (even with no ammo in the car) you must have a specific legal place where you are going to shoot the gun, such as a farm for hunting or a range. Many Pennsylvanians have been arrested because of these laws. Btw, if you check out the bridges between NJ and NY or PA or De, you’ll find that none have tolls going into NJ, but all have tolls leaving which makes NJ the only state you have to pay to get out of. Many say its worth the cost.

Remember all the loudmouths like Stevie Wonder who pompously announced they would boycott any state with a “stand your ground” law (after George Zimmerman sent Trayvon Martin to Hell for mugging him)? I’ve visited New Jersey ONCE. On a job interview. Glad it didn’t pan out, in retrospect.

Americans who like ALL their Constitutional rights respected ought to reflect on whether they’ve lost anything in New Jersey worth the risk of being prosecuted for some of the most tyrannical gun laws on the planet. A nationwide boycott of the state and its products is in order.

I’m an ex-marine and for years I had to collect rents in some vary dangerous areas. This would mean I had a lot of cash on me in those areas. I’m a husband with three kids, self employed business man. Home owner for forty years, and do you think I could get a license in the state of California to carry a concealed weapon? Not a chance.

Cops couldn’t care less about the injustice laws purpotrait. All they want is the opportunity to feed their psychopathic sicknesses by bullying, intimidating, humiliating, and abusing other human beings. Their ultimate thrill is to be protected by corrupt prosecuitors and insane laws while they draw down on another human being and kill them. All cops, on some level, have a psychotic need to abuse another human being. That’s WHY they became cops. That’s the character flaw law enforcement recruiters look for. By the same token, the citizens of New Jersey have brought this hellish nightmare down upon themselves. It’s up to them to put an end to it. If they continue to refuse to do so by not arresting and prosecuting law enforcement, then so be it- the rest of the nation will ostrisize the entire state economically and socially until they wilt and die on the vine. All we have to do is permanently stop doing any kind of commerce or business with all businesses in the state. God knows they won’t be missed, particularly that pig Christy.

This is why it needs to be national concealed carry. The liberals are the ones that create these situations. The law enforcement loves it, they see lawbreakers as customers in their business.

You’re wrong. Chiefs of police love gun control. Ordinary hoplites in the war on crime, street cops, hate it. So do an increasing number of county and parish sheriffs.

I guess what it comes down to is whether or not one considers oneself a “peace officer” or a “law enforcement officer.” “Peace officers” care about domestic tranquility in their jurisdictions, not politicians’ fantasies on the subject. “Law enforcement officers” keep score by the number of arrests they make. Big difference.

Maybe Andy Taylor in Mayberry. But I live in an area surrounded by county sheriffs and lots of rural areas. Guess what, all the sherrifs are anti gun for civilians here.

I would love to see the face of the cops in NJ if nationwide concealed carry passes. (It won’t, of course, there are enough liberals to defeat it.) They would only be slightly less upset than the cops in New York City and California.

      Right on.

If they take her away from her children, that will be the real crime.

Seems to me there should be an option to argue that, given the patently non-threatening nature of her offense, to nonetheless deprive her children of their mother would be an act of cruelty perpetrated on them which, in such an eventuality, would justify charging the responsible party with precisely that.

New Jersey is disgusting. Here are some of their laws: Hollow point ammunition banned as “dum-dum bullets” $1,000 mandatory fine for each round. A slingshot is considered a “firearm”, as is a BB gun: Felony offense up to 3 years imprisonment, a stick of wood
is considered a “billy”. Police have no regard for 4th Amendment rights: They will ask “May we search your vehicle? (NEVER consent)”. But if you refuse, they typically hold you for a K-9 unit, tap your car causing the dog to false alert, scratch up your car, and then proceed with a warrant anyway. Do yourself a favor: Click and drag your route on MapQuest.com away from the state of NJ when getting directions and bypass the entire state of NJ. You’ll save yourself a lot of grief.
