The Orlando Police Department has released footage of a deadly traffic stop shooting that took place May 18th on Mercy Drive in Orlando, Florida.

A suspect opened fire on two officers after he was pulled over. Both officers were unharmed but the suspect was fatally wounded during the exchange.

Bodycam footage, as well as the police report, shows two officers in an unmarked vehicle trying to pull over 28-year-old Carlos Delano Dafill Roberts Jr. for passing in a no-pass zone.

While the officers’ vehicle was unmarked, the officers were in uniform, and sirens and lights were put on during the pursuit.

When Roberts pulled over, he immediately stepped out of his vehicle to shoot at the officers before they even exited their vehicle.

About 1:10 into the body camera video, the first shots can be heard hitting the police cruiser. At 1:13, the female officer is seen drawing her weapon and returning fire as she backs up toward the rear of the cruiser.

The male officer can be heard shouting into his radio, “Shots fired.” The officers both returned fire and ducked, and the video shows footage of the windows of the patrol car being shattered.

Investigators said that Roberts had no violent criminal history, but many traffic citations.

Roberts fled the scene, but soon after, crashed his car. He was then taken into custody. It is unclear what injuries he sustained.

Initially, at the hospital, Roberts was said to be in stable condition. After receiving medical treatment, he was then supposed to head to the Orange County Jail, where he would be booked for a multitude of charges.

However, Roberts never made it out of the hospital. A little over two weeks after the incident, he succumbed to his injuries.

Roberts was facing charges such as attempted murder of law enforcement officers, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and fleeing and eluding.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is handling the investigation, along with the State Attorney’s Office. An internal investigation is underway by the Orlando Police Department.

Someone needs to practice his Mag swaps.

The writer, down to earth, either doesn’t understand reality or is part of the anti-police movement. In almost every state, county or city, if an officer says “shots fired”, ALL available units are to respond because no one knows how bad the situation will become.

  • downtoearththinking.com June 25, 2022, 11:06 am

Al of these units and police for one guy ? 100% totally incomptenet nonsense when one well placed round is all that was needed. Reminds me of Uvalde as an example of incompetence and layers of SOP that do not work at all. Most police are a very bad joke today and hve been neutered and restrained by idiocy.

By the wya what difference does it make to have marked vehicles if the police are ineffective in any way that matters ? Many of you are till stuck in the bogus rules and incomptence of a very brokem system here in USA today. Please show me one agncy or policy that actually works as it is supposed to for the people ? Most police today are just colllecting a pay check not realizing they will never see any retirement funding as USA is in total coilapse now by th DEM/RINO/DSA very deliberately.

“What you gonna do when they come for you, bad boy bad boy what you gonna do ? “

Thank God the officers were not hit. I don’t understand why someone would jump out of their car and immediately start shooting at the police, especially over a simple traffic stop. No doubt this is the new reality police officers face every day dealing with BLM types and they constantly have to be on high alert and prepared for the inevitable. Is it any wonder why more and more police officers are quitting?

To the officers involved; good shot, and thank you for taking out the trash!

A simple traffic stop? More than likely, the “person” that fired at the cops was a felon in possession of a firearm at the very least. Chances are that if they did nothing, they were going to be going to jail and knew it.

I guess I should have read the article before replying.

There must have been something else going on. A person usually has a lengthy violent history before they even think about shooting at people, especially the police.

All over a traffic violation. I don’t understand the thug mentality.

  • Laddyboy June 24, 2022, 6:01 am

I was under the understanding that ALL POLICE VEHICLES — HAD TO HAVE IDENTIFICATION that could be SEEN ON THEM!

Unfortunately, in my AO that’s not true. Local sheriff’s department has a “ghost marked” Tahoe they used to watch the turnpike, and a local pd has a ghost marked charger.

That is an incorrect assumption. Vehicles are not required to be marked.
