OPD: Carry Air Horns!
Crime is surging in Oakland, California.
Per city numbers, burglaries are up by 41% and robberies by more than 20%. Rape is up 12%. If there’s good news, it’s that homicides are down 14%.
Law enforcement is now advising residents to follow various safety tips to reduce their chances of becoming a victim.
Among them is for one to keep and bear… an air horn, as CNN reported.
Other Safety Tips Include:
- Remain calm. Do not resist.
- Always be aware of your surroundings.
- Do not be distracted by electronic devices.
- Be discreet with your property, this includes purses, phones, jewelry, and other valuable
- When possible, walk with another person.
- Walk in well-lit, high-traffic areas.
One resident, Toni Bird, spoke to CNN about how bad it’s gotten in the city. Bird’s 60-year-old neighbor, David Schneider, was fatally shot while doing yard work.
“People aren’t feeling safe out of their house,” she said. “It makes sense that you would want to protect your house then, right? You would barricade it.”
To harden her home, Bird’s invested in security cameras and air horns. She has five of the former and three of the latter.

“The types of crime that we’re seeing feel much more violent and the consequences feel much more severe,” she added. “And it feels like the people that are being targeted are people who are vulnerable.”
Bird hopes that her defensive posture will be enough of a deterrent to keep the bad guys away. If not, she hopes that someone will heed the honk of her air horn and come to the rescue. Or that someone will call the police on her behalf.
OPD Response Times
It’s worth noting that, as of June 2023, an NBC Bay Area investigation found that Oakland has the second slowest 911 response time in the entire state, averaging 54 seconds.
In other words, a victim will have to wait nearly a full minute before she even speaks to a live dispatcher.
How long it takes officers to arrive at the scene of a high-priority incident, like a violent home invasion or a rape, is another matter altogether.
Per 2022 data analyzed by The San Francisco Standard, it’s about 20 minutes on average.
City Leaders Silent About 2A Rights
While airhorns and security cameras may serve as a temporary deterrent, their effectiveness against serious threats is highly dubious.
These recommendations from OPD underscore a more profound concern: the conspicuous silence from city leaders on an individual’s right to keep and bear arms.
Such a response raises questions about the broader strategies to keep Oakland criminals in check, leaving little doubt that those in charge would prefer one be a hapless victim than an armed citizen responder.

Only in Communist Kalifornia would the cops give such ridiculously asinine advice as to carry an air horn- WTF KALIFORNIA BACON FARM!
Hey California’s, don’t do the air horn trick, you’ll get hurt or dead. At least have a fighting chance. Buy some guns, get training and carry all the time you leave your home. If done right, Noone will ever know and at least you’ll have an element of surprise when you resist the bad guys by surprisingly perforating the piece of feces and terminating the punks preying on innocents.

In other news the Illinois Supreme Court upheld the assault weapons ban by Gov. far boy Prickster. And now you know why people are fleeing in record numbers from that shit hole state.
I bought my first gun three years ago (an AR-15) because there was a problem in my neighborhood and when I called 911 I was on hold for 14 minutes before anyone answered. This in a county where there are the highest paid cops in the country. I realized then that I can’t rely on the police to protect me. They’re great for showing up hours later to fill out the report but not for much more. Oh, I always see three or four cars at the diner where they are all stuffing their faces.
In other words, the police can’t do anything about crime so their advice is just to submit and live with it. That alone says a lot about the state of America’s cities, especially in California. As for the air horn, it’ll only be a little louder than the gunshot when the startled and pi**ed off criminal shoots you.
You can’t pity people like that. They’re irredeemably stupid. They voted for this, time after time after time. The smart ones move to Texas or Florida, but the ones who remain will reliably keep screwing up your life by voting in national elections.
Flamethrowers are legal in California
Are these clowns for real?
Maybe Oakland officials want people getting mugged to blast airhorns to show support for the criminals like at sporting events! So, 30 years ago when I used to travel for the state department, we had to attend a pre trip security and threat briefing before departure. If a terrorist tries to take over an airplane they said, remain calm, try to move to a window seat so you dont get hit in the head by the terrorist as they walked up and down the aisle, hide your American passport, and most importantly, do NOT resist because everything was going to be OK. Then 9/11 happened and they said everything they told us to do before was wrong and to do exactly the opposite from then on!
Air Horns! Right! I’m sure the city leaders protect themselves with air horns, and I’m sure their private protective services arm themselves with air horns too. The public has to face the same criminal element that the police have to. Are the police arming themselves with air horns? Pure unadulterated, asinine jackasses.
“Working together, we can reduce violence in Oakland”.
What a bunch of crap. Violence MAY be reduced, because the citizens will be 100% compliant with the robbers request.
Absolute surrender is no way to gain control over crime.
Oakland is losing what little it had to be proud of. Raiders gone, A’s leaving, no safe venues for concerts, safe shopping non-existent, Police Dept. 50% undermanned…
Maybe the Oakland PD should set the example and trade in their guns for airhorns.
Air horn for public safety? Crime is so bad in Oakland that Pacific Gas & Electric is paying for off duty police to protect its workers. City officials are the real enemy of law and order. Like roaches, they’re entrenched.
I dont recall any “dont resist; let them take it” policies until the 7-11 did that like 30 years ago, and firing employees who stepped out the door to get a license plate.
Better advice would be to never travel to any state or city that doesn’t respect the rights of its citizens for self-defense.
I prefer a quick, pulse wave blast of air from another type of device….
Anarcho-tyranny is the current American form of government:
The government (oligarchy) loots and oppresses the populace while stoking the fires of class and racial divisions and emboldening criminals and with lax law enforcement…when a citizen, particularly a White citizen, successfully defends him/her self or others against one of these lowlifes, the Anvil of Injustice falls on them instead of the criminal. Our good citizen can rack up bonus hate crime charges too, if their assailant was of the correct hue. Daniel Penny is the perfect recent example of this.
Best to get out of Babylon while you still have the chance…most American cities will become unlivable within our lifetimes. Some already are.
my glock is loud like an airhorn so i will just carry that
