A North Carolina man arrested on robbery charges will now face additional charges after authorities found a firearm hidden inside a “body cavity.”

The suspect, identified as Turkise Petway, was being processed at the Nash County Detention Center on April 29 when guards there made him pass through a Tek-84 body scanner.

Given the scanner’s ability to detect contraband hidden on one’s person — and inside one’s person — it took only a matter of seconds for detention officers to discover the armed revolver “hidden” near Petway’s “groin area.”

An example of the scanner used.

Immediately, and, presumably carefully, Nash County detention officers retrieved the deeply concealed wheel gun and handed it over to officers from the Rocky Mount Police Department, who had made the initial arrest.

“Although it is unknown what the suspect’s motives may have been had the weapon not been discovered, this incident could have easily ended badly for detention officers or current inmates,” Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone told WITN News.

Petway was originally facing charges for conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and aiding and abetting armed robbery, according to local news affiliate Fox46

He will now also face charges for unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon by a prisoner.

The Tek-84 body scanner used to discover the gun was purchased last year with COVID relief funds for $150,000.

In light of recent events, it seems like money well spent.

Wonder if it was a naa mini in 22short. I’ve seen a picture a couple decades ago of the prison wallet doubling as a prison holster for a mini. The old MAC stinger was designed for this using a rubber sleeve for comfort.

  • Robert L May 16, 2022, 4:49 pm

I’ll bet it was a shitty gun!!

  • Wall018 May 16, 2022, 12:02 pm

It wasn’t his gun, he was just holding it for a friend.

  • paul I'll call you what I want/1st Amendment May 14, 2022, 4:19 am

    Kevlar Diapers……

  • Paul Feyerabend May 14, 2022, 12:35 am

I bet he said that someone else put it there…… LOL

That’s not the first time I’ve heard of this, in the local jail here, there was a S&W model 10 with a 4 inch barrel that was found inside of someone that had been arrested. For dope dealers and some others, they keep Money, Drugs, weapons, phones, and all kinds of stuff inside of them. Just ask the Doctors and Nurses that work in the hospital emergency room, they find all kinds of property, when dope dealers arrive with gunshot wounds. They find the items, while checking for internal bleeding.

  • Daak77 May 13, 2022, 7:45 pm

    actually it was a S&W .500 Magnum with an 8 3/8″ barrel.

Aside from WTH? The real question is, how is buying a body scanner for law enforcement/detention in anyway “Covid Relief” – sounds like a questionable (perhaps criminal) misuse of funds

  • OldGuy May 13, 2022, 3:26 pm

I was actually hoping to read the article to discover the hidden asset was actually a small 2-shot derringer but, to read it was actually a revolver makes me cringe at the thought.

Since the actual revolver was not specified, can I still be hopeful that it was a rimfire and not a centerfire? I suppose we should all be thankful it was not a small semi automatic pistol similar to a subcompact like a G26, G27, or a G42 as it may have accidentally discharged upon removal, wounding both the offender and possibly someone standing adjacent like another prisoner or even a correctional officer.

Like the woke ideology and the critical race theory, this is one conversation a parent does not relish having with children of any age when they stumble upon a news article.

Perhaps, this offender believes he is a marsupial from the land down-under and his ass is a really a pouch?

It could have been a .22LR or .22S NAA mini revolver. A woman tried smuggling one of those into a jail not long ago. Bet she got a real “bang” out of it, considering where she hid it! They’re tiny enough to hide in the watch pocket of a pair of jeans, or mount on a belt buckle.

  • ag leder May 13, 2022, 2:46 pm

WOW he could have got LEAD poisoning !!!!! LOL !!!

  • Keyser Soze May 13, 2022, 1:20 pm

I’m not sure why the article said they “carefully” removed the item. Tie a parachute cord around the trigger and tie it tightly to an open door. Then slam it! The door slamming also muffles the report!

  • Keyser_Soze May 13, 2022, 1:15 pm

They should have kept looking, Hillary Clinton’s server with the missing emails might be up there somewhere!

  • Ji. May 13, 2022, 12:14 pm

I heard that it was a B.F.R. , not sure though what caliber because it “depends” on what he did with the evidence.

  • Hondo May 13, 2022, 12:11 pm

Did they also find bluedouche him/clown head in there too? Lol

  • Mark Wynn May 13, 2022, 11:59 am

Article says the police don’t know what the perp intended … but it was obviously some kind of sh1t …..

  • kjj5874 May 13, 2022, 11:43 am

I didn’t think ones asshole could stretch that far open to get any kind of gun, maybe a derringer into a body cavity.

  • Jim May 13, 2022, 10:42 am

All I can say is, “OWWW”

  • john May 13, 2022, 10:37 am

My thoughts exactly. All of this Covid money went to all of these businesses and government agencies and take a guess who gets to pay for it…Taxpayers. I’m glad the department got a scanner but that money should have come out of the local coffers and not the federal government. Fucking Covid bullshit. fuck china

  • LA May 13, 2022, 10:22 am

Is buttcheeks one word, or do you spread those apart?

  • LJ May 13, 2022, 10:05 am

Oh boy, there are so many potential jokes here. But here’s the bad fact – yes, he was charged, but more than likely he won’t spend one extra minute in prison for it due to our revolving door justice system. It would be interesting to see his complete arrest record, I’m sure this isn’t his first rodeo, and I’m sure not his last.

  • AK May 13, 2022, 9:50 am

“The nearly-pristine pre-model-number Smith and Wesson .44 Magnum with it’s 6.5 inch barrel will be sold to benefit the police widows and orphans fund..”

    • LJ May 13, 2022, 10:01 pm

Dude – I’ve owned a pristine ‘Dirty Harry Special’ like new in the box since 1979. PLEASE don’t tarnish it’s image in my minds-eye with THAT visual!😂

  • Roman1307 May 13, 2022, 9:21 am

Now gentlemen, please let’s use the correct terminology in referring to the offenders actions. According to Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart’s movie “Get Hard”, the term is “keistering”.

    • Greg May 16, 2022, 12:59 pm

In jailhouse terminology it is called in his “Suitcase.”

  • Er May 13, 2022, 9:03 am

I’m sure he claimed “that’s not my gun”

  • Slim May 13, 2022, 8:53 am

The Dr.”s should keep checking. They might find Obama’s lost 982 billion $’s stimulus package that has gone missing.

  • Er May 13, 2022, 8:52 am

Biden is asking for more “Covid relief” money now. They must need to “go back in” and get that box of ammo from that guys ass.

  • D.J. May 13, 2022, 8:28 am

Too bad there was not an “ accidental discharge “ .
‘ Could have saved the taxpayers some money , eh ?

  • Pop LeCorque May 13, 2022, 7:49 am

Think he’ll use the “oh, I forgot that was there” excuse? 😂

  • Ron May 13, 2022, 7:48 am

Had the gun “accidentally” discharged during extraction, then I would has considered the machine money well spent.

  • Kenny Kirkland May 13, 2022, 7:16 am

    Covid relief funds? SMH

    • fedup May 13, 2022, 4:34 pm

Exactly. What does this have to doo(doo) with Covid?

  • alex May 13, 2022, 7:05 am

did they find al capone’s money up this guys asshole ??? i’m glad to see that everyone is using the fake covid money for everything but covid! in my town they’re using it to put in sewer drains in town, what a scam this whole thing was, destroyed our country over a flu and these people are clapping that they can x-ray some jerk’s asshole, only in america!!

    • Mark Wynn May 13, 2022, 12:03 pm

And the administration wants more billions for “COVID relief.” Or is it for more gun restrictions ….

  • Armed and Dangerous May 13, 2022, 6:01 am

Maybe someone told him to stick it up his ass

    • CJ May 13, 2022, 7:39 am

For the first (and only time in his life) he did what he was told! Curious to see what they dragged out… possibly one of those .22 revolvers? A Ruger security six in .357 with 6″ barrel? What an asshole!

      • Don May 13, 2022, 2:27 pm

That had to be a well lubed Gun to get it in there.
