Nighthawk Customs, one of the best names in premium 1911 pistols, is pleased to announce the VIP Commander. A follow-up to their VIP, or Very Impressive Pistol, the VIP Commander is a more compact stainless steel design, with a 4.25-inch barrel, chambered in .45 ACP or 9mm Luger.

Nighthawk offers the VIP Commander with a timeless brushed nickel finish as well as with a black DLC finish with polished flats, for the best protection while still keeping things classic and handsome. The slide has deep vertical serrations and a scalloped ejection port to promote reliability.

The slide is fitted with an 18 karat gold bead front sight and a black serrated Heinie Slant Pro rear sight. The rear of the slide is serrated to match the rear sight and cut glare. The VIP Commander uses a traditional recoil spring assembly and barrel bushing. The barrel comes with a sharply recessed crown.

There are long, straight serrations along the frontstrap for added purchase and straight serrations on the flat magwell mainspring housing to match. It’s a traditional frame up front with a standard dust cover and no rail, which would look out of place on a pistol like this.

All of the controls are serrated or checkered, including the extended right-handed thumb safety. It has a skeletonized combat hammer and a medium trigger with an adjustable overtravel stop. The beavertail grip safety also sports a memory button with short serrations.

Like the original VIP, the Commander comes with giraffe bone grips, and each is handmade and hand-engraved by a master engraver. The scrollwork is tasteful and minimal, while still great-looking, rounding out the very attractive package.

Every VIP comes in a custom walnut presentation case. The VIP Commander has not yet been fully listed, but it’s likely that the price is the same as the original, which is $7,999. These truly are heirloom guns.
