A 13-year-old boy shot an intruder on Friday, Sept. 8th, around 10 p.m., near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road, police confirm.
The intruder, identified as 36-year-old transient Juan Saavedra, was attempting to break into the family home.
Police responded to the scene at approximately 10:05 p.m. after receiving a burglary in progress call.
Upon arriving, officers found Saavedra with gunshot wounds to his abdomen and arm.
An alleged victim reported she first spotted Saavedra on her security camera. She confronted him, warned him, and then retreated inside, alerting her children and arming herself.

When Saavedra persisted, shattering a carport window and reaching inside, the victim’s 13-year-old son shot him in defense of his family.
Saavedra later revealed in an interview that he’d been on a 48-hour methamphetamine binge with a friend.
He approached the house mistakenly thinking his son was inside, despite knowing it wasn’t his residence.
Currently, Saavedra faces 2nd Degree Burglary charges. A judge set his bond at $50,000 cash-only.
Saavedra has a prior criminal history.
Local residents voiced their concern over the incident to local news affiliate Fox10.
“I’m happy that they had something to defend themselves,” a neighbor said. “I would have, we would have done the same thing, so I feel good for them.”

Looks like a demoncratic constituent to me.
Hey, wasn’t this guy leading the research team on a cure for cancer?
Mr. Saavadra was arrested for burglary and B&E in San Mateo in July, 2022. He is a lifetime criminal, in spite of his young age. Mr Saavadra should be sentenced to no less than 2 years in prison, and 5 years probation. He is a danger to himself, which means he is also a danger to others.
Jaun should have gotten a free ride to the morgue, better luck next time kiddo.
Transient unemployed and supported by the Govt. It’s a shame he wasn’t dispatched.
Expect more of this from Biden’s invited guests.
It would be nice to know where this happened. Giving street names only doesn’t cut it!

I don’t know if Paul will pick up on this, but since we all have the same rights provided we are a member of our USA I will take a chance. I my old eyes Paul is what is really wrong with Our Great USA. I am guessing he never belonged to a punk gang or a motorcycle gang, or that he really belongs to any group of We The People that understand and live by We not by Us. As for the 13-year-old popping caps at the bad guy, good job young human, but please don’t become Shallow like Paul. Now if I got to know Paul I might find some things about him that I like, but I don’t think I will find An Open Mind nor someone that can be Party Blind which is required to see The We in Our USA. If you follow a so-called party in lockstep you are simply a member of their gang, thus I Vote but not by what a party tells me to do. Enough Said. God Bless US All
Paul believes in “life liberty and the pursuit of happiness” not innocent people being terrorized and murdered so agendas can be obtained. If the courts won’t help then it is upon WE THE PEOPLE to correct those problems!
“I my old eyes Paul is what is really wrong with Our Great USA.”
WOW, really, Paul is the problem? It sounds like an easy fix then, what would you suggest? Sorry Paul, things are getting desperate and we have to consider everything.
