in Authors, Industry News, S.H. Blannelberry

That last installment of SIG’s four-part video series was released today, culminating in the unveiling of the MCX Rattler, a rifle design to be shorter than any M4 ever produced.

Designed with help from elite military units around the globe, the Rattler gives users all the fire and fury of an M4 in a sub-gun sized platform proving the adage that good great things do come in small packages.

Have been shooting a Keltec PLR16 for 4 years. Reliable, light, accurate, chrome lined barrel, standard mags, one -fourth the price of Sig. Buy a PLR, an RDB with scope, and a thousand rounds of ammo. Still have plenty of money to take ball and chain out to a nice dinner. Mr. Kelgren’s designs years ahead of Sig.

Very silly very expensive it s your money. PS I have pistols and I always end up with 10 or 11 inches! I do not want an explosion in my face!

Everything will be fine just as long as everyone really knows that any and all Army of One, Special Feces, Lone Warrior, Ultimate Ninja nonsense is just that nonsense …

Think Fishing lures their main purpose is to catch the fisherman’s attention and generate a sale.

  • Vince Black August 25, 2017, 6:37 pm

Looks neat but that’s about it. I like how they say,”Designed with help from elite military units around the globe.(mall ninja marketing at it’s best) $2700bucks! That’s Scar money. Really Sig? I wonder what happens when you DROP IT? Or hit it with a rubber hammer? Sig smart people stopped buying your stuff years ago. Fire your CEO and start making guns that aren’t just cool but quality as well. For heaven’s sake issue a “mandatory recall on the p320”!
I like the idea of the super short 300blk. However being a Sig USA product. I question the engineering, the build quality and parts/support for this gun in the future. Prove me wrong Sig! I hope you can and do! Save Sig!

      Do you homework.

  • William August 25, 2017, 5:37 pm

    SERIOUSLY!
These short guns have a bad reputation for shooting off your ARM or HAND. Just reaching for a door handle, opening a door, doing anything with the unused hand. Even special forces, seals, etc. have had this problem!

  • Howard August 25, 2017, 1:01 pm

I love this gun. I plan on getting one.

  • Mitchell Starnes August 25, 2017, 11:38 am

Clearly a great close quarters home defense weapon ! Great to clear your home with. Can’t see target practice over 75 ft if that. But close up is when you need a defense weapon. This can put some heavy lead toward your intruder and if you Adrenalin is to high , after emptying a mag, i don’t thing they would be around after if you hit them or not. Just the sound of a pump action will send them falling over everything to get out , this gun i may prefer over a hand gun in close quarters !!

  • Garrett August 25, 2017, 11:22 am

    I did notice it wasn’t a 5.56 looks like a 300 blk out

  • brad August 25, 2017, 10:14 am

did anyone watch the video? looks like a 300 blackout not a 223…..

  • Van August 25, 2017, 10:10 am

Everyone assumes this mini rifle is 5.56. It’s not, it’s 300Blk.

  • Brent August 25, 2017, 9:53 am

Watch the vid at 2:40, it is clearly .300blk brass, NOT 5.56. Which does good out of a short barrel.

  • Tripwire August 25, 2017, 9:51 am

I may be wrong but the empty brass looked like 300 BO to me, I didn’t go back to double check but I think I’m right

    • brad March 5, 2018, 2:23 pm

A can is almost an essential add-on for the Rattler. That is, if you ever want to hear anything ever again. I’d also seriously consider some type of vertical fore-grip, just to help make sure you keep all your fingers, etc.

I’ve got a PLR-16 (5.56) and it’s still obnoxiously loud even with a blast-diverter on it. With the typical bird-cage it’s absolutely deafening.

  • Steven Kaspar August 25, 2017, 9:51 am

Another piece of junk from the junkmasters themselves Sigg!

    • Cristobal Miedo October 24, 2017, 11:53 pm

      Jealous much Competitor?

  • Frank August 25, 2017, 9:34 am

I’d prefer it in a 11.5 barrel instead. 5″ is to short yep… It’s all about size.

  • Cyrus August 25, 2017, 8:16 am

Silliness – what would you do with this that couldn’t be done better with a shotgun

    • steve August 25, 2017, 2:52 pm

uhh, not sure if you are joking or not, but…conceal it? which seems to be the entire purpose behind this gun? can you fit your shotgun in the backpack the guy in the video was wearing? does your shotgun hold 30 rounds, and does it reload in seconds with a simple magazine change?

  • Infidel7.62 August 25, 2017, 8:00 am

I’ll bet the ballistics from a 5.56 in a 5.5″ barrel are just fantastic. And he blast will be worse than a .50 BMG.

    • Tarvis September 1, 2017, 11:13 pm

I bet that’s why it is named the Rattler; recoil has to shake you to death

  • any fool August 25, 2017, 7:13 am

Sig Sauer, stop making AR15 crap. Go back to your roots. Someone google 550 rifle and send that page to Sig

  • beau August 25, 2017, 6:51 am

a 5in. .223 ??? its a combo….. mild .38 special and a Flame thrower…..It , looks good ,but so does kim kardashian but other than looks they ain’t worth a …….” anything !” you thought I was gonna say “shit”

  • roger August 25, 2017, 5:57 am

Um.. you can assemble a 6 inch AR 15 pistol for $600 including a brace.

    • Cristobal Miedo October 24, 2017, 11:56 pm

If you like to shoot it, have fun cleaning it with your DI setup, because I promise you can’t get it to cycle with that short barrel and a gas piston. lol

  • Bob August 25, 2017, 5:48 am

How effective is a 5.5″ barrel when spitting out a 55 g. projectile? I think 10 mm would be just as effective, albeit more expensive. And no, I haven’t geeked out the numbers just flying by the seat of my pants at 0530…

    • Mahatma Muhjesbude August 25, 2017, 8:07 am

Not, um…optimal, I would say. Everybody knows that 556 barrels under 11.5 inches start to seriously undermine the effectiveness of an already heavily disputed round for a modern ‘combat’ rifle, which this isn’t anyway. It’s a carbine. And certainly surpassed by existing compact subgun platforms, A 10mm would be superior to this, especially with tailored ammo for CQB. Especially something like a select fire Glock 20 in one of those compact Israeli mini Ronan stocks if they made higher capacity round magazines for it.

      • Bill August 25, 2017, 8:48 pm

        It’s .300BLK, not .223/5.56

        • Mahatma Muhjesbude August 27, 2017, 1:36 pm

Bill, It’s 300 OR 5.56. Neither of which in such a short barrel is worth the price for it’s limited applications. Just for everyone’s information, this isn’t even a ‘new’ idea. I remember a company called Olympic Arms a while back once made a small pistol sized AR with a side folding stock that could have been not identical ‘twin’ of this.
Also, you could put together a pretty close replica of this with a 7.5 inch aftermarket AR barrel and an after market side side folding adapter using one of those ultra light flat pistol brace/stocks (not the bulky sig brace) that would still be a pistol? Because I don’t think it matters if the ‘brace’ is folding or not, for less than a grand, which would be only a couple inches or so longer than this SBR.

  • Davron August 25, 2017, 4:59 am

Recoil? I wonder what the report and fireball are like.

  • Michael Tucker August 22, 2017, 7:29 pm

    I love it…..

  • Russ H. August 22, 2017, 1:47 pm

Neat! I just wonder what the recoil is like.
