In 2007 McMillan Firearms built a custom TAC-338 for legendary SEAL sniper Chris Kyle. According to the company reps we spoke with at this year’s NRA Annual Meetings, Kyle told the McMillan gunsmiths that insurgents had learned the effective range of his 300 Win MAG, and he wanted something that could reach out a little further.
McMillan was more than happy to oblige, and Kyle used his new 338 Lapua Magnum rifle the next year to make his longest successful shot, a hit on an enemy sniper from 2,100 yards.
Now McMillan and its parent company, Strategic Armory Corps, are honoring Kyle’s service by offering 100 exact copies of that original TAC-338 and donating the proceeds to the American Valor Foundation, a non-profit founded by the Kyle family that supports the military, law enforcement, and emergency services.
The McMillan reps told us that recreating Kyle’s rifle involved much more than modifying an existing TAC-338. They built this rifle from the ground up, going back to all the original manufacturers for the barrel, scope, rings, and muzzle brake.
The stock is a fiberglass McMillan A5. It’s exactly like Kyle’s original stock except McMillan engineers improved the cheek riser to ensure its stability even after the recoil of a 338 Lapua. The McMillan receiver and bolt are also identical to Kyle’s, down to the font and lettering.
The barrel is from Schneider Rifle Barrels, and it maintains the original profile, 1/10 twist, and P5 rifling. The muzzle device is from Elite Iron, and Badger Ordnance made the rings.

Leupold no longer manufactures the 8.5-25X50 Mark IV Kyle used in Iraq, but at McMillan’s request, they produced 100 Mark IV’s for this project.
The trigger was the only component McMillan gunsmiths couldn’t remember from Kyle’s rifle. They weren’t sure whether they had used a Timney or a Jewell, but they eventually decided on the Jewell. They didn’t think buyers would mind much either way (they were probably right).
McMillan is selling rifles with serial numbers CK2 to CK100 for $15,000. Serial number CK001 will be auctioned, and all the proceeds will go to support military veterans, first responders, and their families through the American Valor Foundation.

Bad ass rifle !! Smokemall 😎
I been having a very hard time locating one of these rifle. I’m really begging anyone to sell me this rifle.
all in all a great rifle but still we are not Chris Kyle.
Bill, you are correct. Just because you own a Ferrari does not make you a Ferrari driver.
Pretty expensive set-up just to murder Iraqi teenagers and unemployed adults who had a normal life until mercenaries such as Kyle illegally entered their country.
You should enter their ‘country’. You clearly need a bit of perspective.
You talk real big for someone sitting on the couch in your underwear watching cartoons with your mother while men like Kyle put his life on the line so you could be a pud on the couch
🇺🇸Hearsay Winston, Rumors spread by others who also were Not there! You probably don’t give to #WWP or other charities or even have a US flag decal on your car~
First and foremost – Winston you are a true piece of shit. You obviously know nothing about how military service works but happily enjoy all the liberties and rights our soldiers past, present, and future made possible and defend while your pathetic ass eats twinkies, playing video games in your mommas basement. Alot of us soldiers and civilians alike may not agree with that administration’s choices. As a obvious civilian you have a right and choice in voicing your issues to them, demonstrate, whatever. As a soldier you sacrifice those privileges when you enlist. How dare you make such false accusations about a soldier who I guarandamntee you didnt shoot noncombatants or anyone who didn’t pose a very real threat to the soldiers he was tasked to overwatch!!! We follow orders and fight to protect one another and this country as our leaders see fit. Which by tha freakin way is why you’re able to make such a unpatriotic, disgusting statement online freely. Our leaders and government have many flaws and aren’t always right – but the soldiers swore to uphold all our nations decisions and follow our chain of command and their orders until completion or death. There are amazing people throughout the middle east who are being killed by some zealot branch of this or that faction setting of bombs at Mosks, celebrations, you name it! Killing indiscriminately! While collateral damage occurs as well as deaths from friendly fire – they are never intentional and always fiercely avoided by us usually resulting from ant attack on us by them. YOU ARE A COWARD and the worst example of an American. Insulting a dead soldier who saved many American soldiers and Iraqi lives. Who you calling mercenaries and illegally invaded according to whom? You think all us soldiers are bloodthirsty psychopaths just waiting to be unleashed? If our nation is so bad in your opinion – WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE? Go check out Iraq. Doubt many will miss ya. Have mistakes been made – absolutely – look at what happened in Vietnam! My point is run your mouth and make aim youraccusations towards our country’s leadership who make these decisions on whether or not to deploy and how long we remain there! Not the soldiers who are just doing there job and damndest to hopefully survive and return somewhat normal. We aren’t ever ordered to go kill everyone!!! In all truthfulness thatd be much much easier if we were soulless animals. We are people with the same thoughts and feelings as you. We dont indescrimanently judge whole population or religious sects based on the acts of some fanatical portion. Actually less so than the public here because we see and talk and share food or provide medical assistance to these great people. Someone doing the shit you’ve wrongly accused Chris of would very likely be tried for war crimes for just killing unarmed people trying to survive!!! We try more than your sit on ya fatass making false accusations and slandering sorry ass could ever know. I pray I never meet a person face to face who would say such tremendously offensive BS as you in my vacinity. They wouldn’t do it twice and that may be wrong on my part in some folks eyes and I’m sure youd cower at the first sign of any anger if you were to do this in a real physical environment and say see their crazy killers!!!LOL Thanks to the internet though cowards and pussies like you can play tough guy insulting our nations dead heroes. Whatta pathetic man you must be Winston. Your the true disgrace to our nation.
My sincerest apologies to the moderator who reviews my previous comment. I was very angry and utterly disgusted by the horrible accusations and slandering directed at a fallen brother and National hero.
Well said brother….I too have been behind the crosshairs, worms like this guy aren’t worth the time it takes nor the energy you put into your very well written letter. Rest easy, we know the real deal(USMC fighting 5th—-3/5)
Your entitled to your opinion. A word of caution. Do disgrace an American hero. You don’t know what A brotherhood means. You depend on each other knowing without a doubt that your brother has your six. Without that there is no brotherhood or team. Why don’t you go up to one of Kyle’s brothers/team mates and sat that or he’ll come to Texas and say some more stupid opions. What did this country do to you to make you hate it so much?
I rarely comment on sites. That said, what about the rifle with s/n CK000? The one in the PHOTOS!! No mention of that? Am I wrong?
Now THAT is brilliant marketing – if I had the money, I’d nab one of those in a heart beat!
So it’s definitely a sweet rifle, but can anyone tel mel why they would pay 15,000 dollars for a 8,889 dollar rifle. I know it has CK specs and a decent scope but dammm ! I guess that’s what happens when a special addition rifle comes out. I would love to have one but not for that price. You can buy or build a better rifle for less. Good article though.
Did anyone ‘read’ the article? Not making this comment directly at you, but I see many similar comments that indicate a lack of comprehension. The proceeds from all the rifles (minus cost, I’m sure) is going to American Valor Foundation. The idea is to create a series of one time only guns to raise money for a soldiers and first responder charity. Chris Kyles family is not profiting, their foundation is getting the money to help all sorts of folks that help keep the idio…….people I see here safe.
I read the article and it mainly focuses on the Foundation and how the weapon was built it is one of the greatest modified guns in my opinion.
Well said
This guy still makes more money than me dead – just like Elvis and Marylyn Monroe. My real question is when does it end for this guy. He was SEAL,so were a lot of other guys. He was sniper so were a lot of other guys. He is also a proven liar and he is dead because of his hubris. I would be just fine never hearing about him or the Kardashians again!
I’m waiting for the Chuck Norris edition.
Where can you purchase 1 of the 99 being sold? There isn’t any information in McMillan’s website.
Kyle
Did NOT make a head shot at 2100 yards in a sand storm without a spotter.

What is the MOA of this beauty?

15,000 grand is a lot of $
