Twenty-one-year-old Oscar Otero Aguilar accidentally shot himself in the temple last weekend while pointing a gun at his head in what was supposed to be a pose for a selfie, authorities said.

Aguilar, a veterinarian from Mexico City, had been drinking with some friends before he decided to take the photo with the loaded gun aimed at his head.

Tragically, during the selfie, Aguilar must have mistakenly pulled the trigger on the .45 caliber pistol, fatally wounding himself.

Police said the 21-year-old was alive when they arrived but died shortly thereafter.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Pubic Security told The New York Daily News that they believe it was an accident.

He was a 21yo vet? And a .45? Are military calibers allowed in Mexico these days? They used to be a big, a very big, NO NO.

There’s no conciliatory path in any veterinary school one can graduate as a DVM at age 21. Unless he was gifted n a Mensa candidate, though if he had been such a gifted young man. He wouldn’t have a case of dumbas* while drinking, n I call bs on this reported incident involving a DVM IMHO. Even though it was sad, guns aren’t toys. RIP
