Tactical flashlights are more or less a dime a dozen these days. Lights are available in countless sizes and intensities. The big drawback to the standard light is they all require rail space as well as a mount to attach them to your gun.
LUX180, a new company launching at SHOT Show 2016, has developed a new way to light up the night. Designated model 34-36 this light is designed to remove all of the bulk associated with the traditional rifle mounted light while still offering powerful illumination at the push of a pad.
So what exactly is the LUX180 model 34-36? In short it is a weapon light designed around the Samson Evo rail system. This LUX180 is quiet a bit more than the average light. The light is built out of aerospace grade 6061 aluminum and is designed to be shock resistant, waterproof, and most importantly heat resistant. The production model is going to be heat rated for full auto use as well be completely free floating from the barrel.
The LUX180 design uses 3 LED emitters spaced out around the face of the light. The light is powered by one CR123A battery and projects a 400-600 lumen beam at the click of the included pressure switch. The battery life is set to last right around 2.5 hours when on.

Looking at the LUX180 34-36 it is clear the designers have taken a different approach to mounting a tactical light on an AR15. By integrating the light into the inside of the handguard, LUX180 has removed all of the bulk associated with a standard light. In reality if the light proves to be as reliable as their claims I see no real downside other than the requirement to use a compatible handguard on your rifle. As of now the LUX180 34-36 is still in the prototyping phase but we can expect to see it on the market in the months to come. Christian the owner/designer also hinted to a standardized version of the light that will work with more than just the Samson Evo rail as well as combinations light laser combos to follow.

Great start.
Add a GOOD laser emitter, along with a blue tooth wireless remote switch pad to run either or both output devices.
Any interference w/ free floating accuracy?
Interesting concept. How it interacts with the gas block isn’t clear. Wonder if they could incorporate some picatinny on the top of it and produce a low profile front sight so the FS could remain further forward…
Looks good! Handguard makers may jump on this idea and integrate a light into their handguard.
