Any law-abiding citizen who walks into Bergeron’s restaurant in Port Allen, Louisiana, will receive a 10 percent discount if they are carrying a firearm.

Nope, this is not a joke, but the words and promise of owner Kevin Cox.

“If you have a gun on you, I’m going to give you a discount,” Cox told local news affiliate WAFB.

The pro-Second Amendment promotion started about two weeks ago, and was inspired by the discount Cox offers to on-duty police officers who stop by during their shift to grub out on some southern fried fish. Cox figured he’d just extend it to any lawful armed patron.

“My friends and relatives would come in with their guns on their holster,” said Cox. “I felt good about that. It made me feel safer that they were there with their gun so why not include all good citizens with the officers too.”

Thus far, it appears his promotion has the support of locals.

“I think it protects the restaurant. It discourages people from breaking in. If they think someone may have a gun and it’s concealed, you’ll think twice about coming in and robbing somebody,” said customer Steve Moore.

Likewise, customer Mike Campbell said, “You feel safer because I mean somebody walks in and wants to rob the place, they’re going to think twice when they see it’s not a gun free place.”

Amen!

Personally I like the fact that Mr. Cox didn’t stipulate the weapon had to be concealed..Although I must admit that the look on the face of a would be robber staring down the barrels of a dozen or so whipped out concealed pistols does do my soul good !

I think this policy should be adopted by all restaurants nationwide. This would ensure all patrons’ safety. Except for open carry this would be great for all.

Kevin Cox is a very savvy businessman.
He will never get robbed, and have a restaurant full of courteous well mannered patrons.
    Real smart.

Some people just don’t know how to read. The Bergeron’s restaurant ad for a 10% discount plainly states in the first sentence (Any law-abiding citizen who walks into Bergeron’s restaurant in Port Allen, Louisiana, will receive a 10 percent discount if they are carrying a firearm). It doesn’t say anything your truck DUMB DUMB.

Be nice to Mark, can’t you tell he’s joking?

        Russ,
I answered DUMB DUMB’s question the way he asked it. From your post about Kevin Cox, you don’t seem like the kind of person who deserves to own a gun, (I take it you are anti-gun) in the first place. Get mugged in the parking lot without a firearm (and I’m not talking about in your truck) and see if the way you think holds up then. Better yet call 911, that should do it, if the perp doesn’t take your cell phone also. Wise up.

You don’t have many friends, do you?

            To Another Russ,
Yea simple person, I have a ton of friends and they are lawful armed & carry people and on-duty police officers who take offense to stupid people & statements made to pro gun patrons. Seems like we have a bunch of people named Russ who are really affected by current gun issue we face every day not being in touch or up to date as to what’s going on in the gun world. We need our second amendment rights to stay intact. These different people named Russ should focus on our current gun issues we fight to keep every day instead of giving stupid answers for all to see just what kind of jerks they are. I could go on about these simple minded jerks but what’s the use some people you just can’t relate to anyway.

when i used to work in Myrtle Beach SC years ago, many of the 7-11’s and Circle K’s would offer free soft drinks and coffee to any cop or security officer who showed up in uniform. So guess where you would go to get your coffee? It was cheap insurance for those places that have a real tradition of late night robbery’s. Hope they still make the offer.

Last time I was there, I had a gun in my truck. Does that count?

Only if you went through the drive-through.
