Speaking in generalities, when you talk to people that are into AK-47s, they are oftentimes purists. Liking the original spec, true to form AKs. Well, Kalashnikov USA has got a new gun that should get you pretty excited, the KR103.
From a purist standpoint, the KR103 is pretty much perfect. Unlike some AK manufacturers, using parts kits and reverse engineering things, Kalashnikov USA is able to go a different route. They actually have the Data Package. THE blueprints for the 103. And with said plans, they have meticulously made the KR103 here in the USA. Every single screw and pin is made right here, per the spec. They have taken every detail into consideration as well, down to the font used on the sights.
While most everything is true to form, they have made a few minor upgrades. For example, the barrel (which is button broached), gas block and gas system is all chrome lined. Not changing any design features, but just adding to the durability of the firearm.
And unlike the original AKs that actually required a lot of hand fitting, Kalashnikov USA has brought the design into the 21st century with modern manufacturing processes. Such as all the dust covers being laser cut. So literally any dust cover made by Kalashnikov USA will fit any KR103. Little details.
The KR103 features a forged trunnion and bolt carrier as well as a billet bolt. All the rifles come standard with an optics mount and ship with a 30 round 103 magazine, made of polymer with steel reinforcements. Additionally, every KR103 is proofed before leaving the factory.
The Kalashnikov USA KR103 will be available Q1 with an MSRP of $1050 and a MAP of $1025.

so, why were you seeing brand new AR15’s for 400-500 (before the SHTF) which are more difficult to make and have more advanced materials? they are made in the USA too.
I guess the author of this article assumed you actually knew something about AK’s. All this whining and crying because he didn’t specify the caliber. NEWS FLASH, an AK 103 is chambered in 7.62×39. So guess what, an AK 103 Clone is chambered in ??????guess what ??????? 7.62×39!
The author made the mistake that people commenting actually knew what an AK 103 was.

We live (HAVE lived for a LONG TIME now actually) in a world where almost ANYTHING…‘ANY’ thing, MADE in the U.S. of A. IS more expensive. It’s just one of those things we’ve come to expect. The ‘problem’ is, when people come to EXPECT it, it can also be taken for granted and there are tons of companies that TAKE ADVANTAGE of the “made in America” moniker or verbage. As for particular manufacturing capabilities here in America that “can’t” be found elsewhere that all comes with a price…OR, at least generally is expected to cost somewhat more. IS the ‘K103’ worth that $1K price tag? Who knows? Like most all things again…’beauty’ is in the “eye of the beholder”. We want to believe we ‘get what we pay for’, but that’s also a ‘ hit or miss’ too. ONE thing IS for sure…the market place is ANY company’s TESTING GROUND. Remember the Sig P365? I do. As for me I’ll most likely GO with an Arsenal Bulgarian BEFORE this K103 model AK BECAUSE “THEY HAVE A HISTORY OF DOING THINGS RIGHT”. Might cost even a little bit more than the $1K being discussed here, whatever. All I know is ANY TIME a company brings the ‘best, newest & greatest’ thing out…”I” won’t be 1st in line.
It’d be nice to know some minor detals like what round it chambers. Now im gonna guess by magazine curve the gun in the pic is 7.62×39. But i shouldnt have to guess

You’re right Douglas…none if that info is given IN the article (for some reason). You SHOULDN’T HAVE TO, but if you look under the ‘K103’ on the (SILVER) placard…you WILL HAVE to expand the image..you ‘could’ see it reads 7.62 X 39…
It is over priced, no AK should cost 1k, not even if it is made in Switzerland.
Is this a kit or not? Says kit a few times. And what exactly is mace of polymer? I love GLOCKS and am a fan of polymers, but on my in the right application and in an AK I don’t see any! And made out of what billet? What type of metal is the bolt? Says billet?! I think first you need to know about basic things like materials guns use and not think the word billet means anything to someone in the know on what type of metal it is before writing articles on them. Yeah, we get how it started… But what type is it?
when you consider how easy those are to make, and how cheap AR’s can get (which require more advanced machining and materials), an AK with plastic stocks should be on the market as low as 350 dollars brand new. yes, really. 350. I don’t see why that one costs 1050.
